Since its release a few weeks ago, Absolum has quickly climbed to the top of my favorite games of the year. The thrill of gameplay is consistent across platforms, but the PC version stands out, particularly in terms of performance and visuals. However, ultrawide monitor users faced some challenges. Thankfully, we now have a mod to enhance the experience.
Enhancing Absolum for Ultrawide Users on PC
Thanks to Lyall, a dedicated member of the PC modding community, an ultrawide support patch for Absolum is now available. This mod not only optimizes the game for wider screens but also enables players to select any resolution they prefer. This is particularly beneficial for those gaming on devices like the Steam Deck, allowing for a more immersive gaming experience.
How to Install the Ultrawide Patch
Follow these steps to download and install the patch:
- Ensure that Absolum is not currently running on your PC.
- Navigate to the Codeberg page and download the latest version of the patch by selecting AbsolumFix_0.0.1.zip under the “Downloads” section.
- Extract the downloaded ZIP file to the following directory within your Absolum installation:
steamapps\common\Absolum
After completing the installation, the next time you start Absolum, you can select your preferred resolution and enjoy gameplay without the black bars that previously affected ultrawide users. Check out the stunning 32:9 screenshot provided by Lyall below:

A heartfelt thanks to Lyall for developing and testing this invaluable patch. In addition to providing ultrawide support, this mod ensures that the game’s HUD appears correctly at wider resolutions, with no cropped elements.
If, for any reason, you decide to uninstall the patch, simply remove the files that were included in the download.
While a native ultrawide support patch from the developers would be ideal, it seems unlikely at this point. The game’s design and level structure appear to be tailored for standard aspect ratios. Although Lyall’s patch enhances functionality, the core gameplay experience—especially during battle sequences—remains rooted in its original format.
