REANIMAL has officially launched on PC and has rapidly gained recognition as one of Tarsier’s most esteemed titles to date. Leveraging the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5, it offers stunning visuals and commendable performance with minimal stuttering. However, one drawback is the lack of native ultrawide support, which results in black bars for players using wider screens.

Fortunately, the modding community has once again risen to the challenge. A developer known as Lyall has released a patch to address this ultrawide limitation. Below are the steps to install this patch and enhance your gaming experience.

How to Fix the Ultrawide Issue in REANIMAL on PC

This patch, contributed by Lyall, effectively eliminates both pillarboxing and letterboxing, allowing users to enjoy the game in its full width on ultrawide monitors.

  • Ensure that REANIMAL is not currently running.
  • Visit the following Codeberg page and download the most recent patch file by selecting SUWSF zip under the “Installation” section.
  • Extract the zip file to the REANIMAL installation directory, located at:

\common\REANIMAL

Once these steps are completed, the next time you launch REANIMAL, the annoying black bars will disappear. It’s important to note that the increase in scene rendering may result in a slight performance hit.

Kudos to Lyall for the development and testing of this patch. Keep an eye on the releases page as there may be updates that include new features or enhancements in the future.

The patch does not interfere with the user interface, which is minimally utilized aside from occasional button prompts. Additionally, a configuration file named SUWSF.ini is included, allowing the user to tweak their experience. This file is located in the following directory within the Win64 folder:

common\REANIMAL\Engine\Binaries\Win64

While you could explore the configuration options, it is advised to leave the default settings as they are—Lyall’s setup is already optimized for various resolutions.

If you need to uninstall the patch, you have two options: either disable it by setting the following value to false in the SUWSF.ini file, or simply remove all patch files:

; Globally enable or disable patches (default: true) Enabled=false

Disabling the patch might be considered only if performance becomes a critical concern, but the impact is generally minimal.

At this moment, it seems unlikely that the developers will implement true ultrawide support since REANIMAL is stylistically grounded in cinematic presentation. Wider resolutions may not align with their artistic intentions. However, many players hope for more inclusive options in the future, allowing wider audiences to fully enjoy the game regardless of their hardware preferences.
