The recently released trailer for Sonic The Hedgehog 3 features Shadow, but could it also be hinting at the appearance of iconic villain Metal Sonic in Sonic 4?
After much anticipation and frustrated fans, the trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has finally arrived on the internet. The brief clip gets straight to the point, featuring Shadow, the return of Dr. Robotnik, and even hinting at a heartbreaking death.
The reason for this is because in the trailer, Dr. Robotnik finally obtains one of Sonic’s supercharged quills, something he has been pursuing since the first movie. Previously, we have witnessed Robotnik using these quills to power his machines, hinting at the possibility of Metal Sonic’s creation.
Metal Sonic made his first appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as a creation of Robotnik, who serves as the second-to-last boss in the game. He has since been featured in numerous other games, including the beloved Sonic Adventure, where he is often portrayed as a stoic counterpart to Sonic.
Despite the lack of confirmation, it is possible that Metal Sonic could be the antagonist in a potential Sonic 4, as the franchise is starting to exhaust its supply of well-known villains.
Despite the appearance of various adversaries throughout the years in Sonic games and comics, there are very few that have achieved the same level of iconic status as those we have seen. From the very beginning, Robotnik has served as the archetypal villain in the Sonic franchise and has consistently been the ultimate showdown in every Sonic game.
With Robotnik obtaining an ultimate power and Sonic forming alliances with even his most formidable enemies, it is logical that Sonic 4 would introduce a villain who cannot be swayed into becoming his ally.
The release date for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in movie theaters is December 21, 2024.
