Synopsis of the Plot
The story begins with a homeless individual staggering near Seoul Station, visibly distressed with a profound neck injury. As he collapses, his companion rushes off to find assistance. Upon returning, he discovers that the injured man has transformed into a zombie and violently attacks him, triggering an outbreak of chaos.
Simultaneously, Hye-sun, a girl escaping a brothel, is with her boyfriend Ki-woong, who is attempting to sell her again for financial gain. After a confrontation, she flees into the escalating turmoil surrounding Seoul Station.

She finds refuge in a police station alongside several other survivors, but the situation escalates when an infected officer causes additional chaos within the holding cells.
Meanwhile, Suk-kyu, who purports to be Hye-sun’s father, interrogates Ki-woong in search of her. Together, they reach her apartment only to discover their landlord has also become a zombie. They seek safety in the bathroom, later escaping to the rooftop. With a plan to create a diversion, Ki-woong fetches a car, and they drive away.

Upon returning to the police station, the infected officer turns several others into zombies. Hye-sun and a remaining survivor attempt to flee in an ambulance, unaware of the outbreak. A radio announcement indicating that hospitals are overwhelmed leads to panic, resulting in a crash that leaves them escaping into a subway station.
Suk-kyu and Ki-woong venture to the hospital but find it already overtaken by the zombie horde. They narrowly escape and continue their search for Hye-sun.
Interpretation of the Ending
At Hoehyeon Station, Ki-woong struggles to establish contact with Hye-sun amidst the disorder.
After being briefly saved by a group of survivors constructing barricades, Hye-sun and the homeless man are mistakenly identified as insurgents by riot police, leading to a declaration of martial law. As infected individuals swarm the barricades, the homeless man attempts to alert the authorities but is fatally shot by soldiers. Zombies breach their defenses.

Hye-sun manages to escape but sustains injuries. Seeking refuge in a model home, she contacts Ki-woong for help. Their reunion is overshadowed by a shocking revelation: Suk-kyu is not her father but her former pimp. Sincerely believe that he is pursuing her for her own good, Suk-kyu actually aims to punish her for embezzling money from her late parents, which he claims belongs to him.
The confrontation spirals out of control, culminating in Ki-woong’s tragic death while attempting to save her. In the ensuing chaos, Suk-kyu tries to assault Hye-sun. In a desperate struggle, she dies after being bitten, only to rise again and bite Suk-kyu, sealing her revenge.

As dawn breaks, soldiers outside Seoul Station fire upon the encroaching zombies, illustrating that the outbreak has spiraled beyond control.
Seoul Station serves as a prequel to Train to Busan, delivering a poignant narrative rife with social commentary regarding inequality, neglect, and violence. Distinctively, while many zombie flicks exploit the undead for scares, this film highlights the true horror lurking within humanity itself, with the outbreak merely as a tragic backdrop. The conclusion offers no comfort, accentuating the disintegration of both individual lives and societal structures.
