Spotify Introduces Parental Controls to Restrict Children’s Access to Specific Artists

Spotify has broadened its managed accounts feature, catering specifically to young listeners, across seven new markets. This expansion allows parents enhanced authority over their children’s access to various content on the platform.

This innovative feature, which underwent trials in ten locations, is now accessible in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands. Managed accounts are crafted for users aged under 13, enabling them to explore music freely while simultaneously allowing parents to control settings and restrictions via the Family Plan options.

Parental Control: Safeguarding Spotify For Kids

Exclusively available to Premium Family subscribers, this feature creates a safe and enjoyable experience for children, offering curated playlists, tailored recommendations, and essential functionalities like Daily Mix and Discover Weekly.

Each managed account incorporates comprehensive parental controls. Parents can utilize an Explicit Content Filter, restrict access to certain artists or songs, and even conceal short video features such as Canvas. Additionally, interactivity is limited, with restrictions placed on age-sensitive tools like Messages.

According to Spotify, this feature facilitates a shared musical journey for families without affecting each member’s listening data, such as Wrapped results. It encourages the development of individual musical tastes amongst younger users.

To set up a managed account, parents can simply navigate to their Family Plan settings, select “Add a listener aged under 13, ” and proceed with the straightforward setup instructions.

A significant feature added back in August allows users to send direct messages, enhancing the sharing of favorite songs, playlists, and more across the platform.
