Spotify has unveiled an innovative DJ feature designed to transform the way subscribers enjoy their playlists. This advancement is part of the platform’s ongoing evolution since its inception more than ten years ago, reflecting its commitment to enhancing the user experience with fresh content and functionalities.

While the Spotify app is available to all users for streaming music and podcasts, this new feature is exclusively accessible to Premium subscribers, allowing them to elevate their listening experience significantly.

On August 19, 2025, Spotify shared this exciting development through an official blog post, announcing that Premium users can create “unique playlists” by adding custom transitions between tracks. This innovation allows for a more personalized audio journey.

With this feature, users can now enhance their playlists by incorporating and customizing various transitions seamlessly.

Currently rolling out in beta for Premium subscribers, some users may need to update their app to access this feature. The interface is user-friendly and straightforward. Once you open your playlist, you’ll find a new “Mix”button that leads to an array of options to customize the transitions between your tracks.

The default setting for transitions is “Auto, ” wherein Spotify selects the most suitable transition for the songs. However, users can manually tap this option below the song title to explore presets like Fade, Rise, and Overlap to better suit their tastes and style.

Similar to a DJ, you have the flexibility to rearrange tracks and apply various EQ adjustments and effects that fit your personal style. Each track is also accompanied by relevant details, including BPM (beats per minute), assisting you in crafting smooth transitions throughout your playlist.

For those who may be venturing into audio mixing for the first time, Spotify provides practical tips, such as focusing on matching the tempos and keys of the tracks. It’s also advised to select genres that are transition-friendly and to consider the desired mood and energy levels for your playlist.

This latest feature underscores Spotify’s commitment to providing an enhanced listening experience and allows users to engage more creatively with their music. Explore the new DJ capabilities today and redefine your audio experience!
