Starfield Mod Brings Seamless Interplanetary Travel One Step Closer

A Starfield modder has developed a modification that allows for seamless travel between planets and their orbiting bodies without the need for loading screens.

Despite some notable improvements, such as the May 2024 update, Starfield’s launch as a massive Bethesda RPG was slightly disappointing to players due to some aspects that fell short of expectations.

In the initial stages, a major grievance among players was Starfield’s approach to space travel. The frequent use of menus and loading screens during fast travel led certain players to believe that the game’s low ratings were well-deserved.

Fortunately, the Astrogate mod, which can be found on Nexus Mods, aims to bring the planetary travel experience in line with what players saw in Star Wars Outlaws. Although it is still a work in progress, a Reddit user shared a demonstration that gives us a glimpse of the potential for seamless interplanetary travel in Starfield.

Currently, the Astrogate mod for Starfield serves as a collection of auto-pilot features that enable players to navigate their ship while traveling through space. With the ability to control the speed, players can effectively shorten lengthy journeys and avoid spending excessive time traveling between planets.

One of its main attractions is its ability to facilitate immersive travel between a planet and all of its orbital entities, such as moons and space stations. Not only does it enable your ship to automatically take off and land, but it also seamlessly transitions between each travel destination without any loading screens.

The player must still enter the cockpit and initiate a grav jump in order to travel between planets and systems. However, this limitation does not apply to short-distance travel within a planet’s orbit, as the planet and its orbital bodies are all loaded as a single instance.

RealityIDR, the creator of the mods, has stated a desire to find additional solutions for Starfield’s loading screens. Their main focus, however, is finding a means to integrate the game’s unpredictable events into the Astrogate mod.
