Upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 25H2: Your Complete Guide

Upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11 25H2 can be achieved through four main methods: the Windows Insider Program, Windows Update, Installation Assistant, or by utilizing an ISO file. Currently, the Insider Program is the only method accessible through the Release Preview Channel, while the other options will become available when Microsoft rolls out the update in October 2025.

Before initiating the upgrade, it’s crucial for your device to be running Windows 10 version 22H2 and to meet the hardware specifications required for Windows 11. As support for Windows 10 phases out on October 14, 2025, taking advantage of the Windows Insider Program offers an early and cost-free upgrade path to Windows 11 25H2.

Presently, the 25H2 version can be accessed only through the Release Preview Channel. To proceed with this method, you’ll first need to upgrade to version 24H2, enroll in the Windows Insider Program, and then install an enablement package for the transition to the new version.

Once Windows 11 25H2 becomes publicly available in October 2025, you will receive a notification through “Windows Update” prompting you to continue with the upgrade—however, it is essential to upgrade to version 24H2 beforehand.

Additional upgrade options include using the Installation Assistant for an in-place upgrade or downloading the ISO file for installation via USB flash drive or a clean install. These methods will be accessible once the feature update is officially launched for the general public.

It’s important to note that performing a clean installation of the operating system, despite being more time-consuming, generally results in a smoother transition with fewer issues compared to an upgrade over an existing system.

This guide outlines the steps for upgrading Windows 10 to the Windows 11 2025 Update using four distinct methods:
