Aspyr has returned with an exciting remastered collection, featuring Tomb Raider IV-VI. Following the success of their previous collections, which were well-received for their engaging remastering techniques and the option to switch between classic and modern graphics, this latest offering is generating significant interest.

One notable drawback, however, is that players are unable to manually modify various graphical settings, including fundamental options like resolution and aspect ratio. Fortunately, dedicated gamers can still adjust the resolution in Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered through specific launch commands. Here’s a detailed guide on how to do so.

Adjusting the Resolution in Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered

Similar to other remastered titles such as Tomb Raider I-III and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, this collection defaults to your display’s resolution. For instance, if your monitor is set to 1080p, the game will render at that same resolution. Adjusting this can be accomplished through two methods.

Using a Launch Command

If you wish to experience the game at a different resolution, utilizing a launch command works seamlessly for both Steam and GOG platforms. For example, to set the game to 900p resolution on Steam, follow these steps:

  • Right-click on Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered in your Steam library and select Properties.
  • In the General tab, locate the LAUNCH OPTIONS section and input the following command:

-width 1600 -height 900

  • You can adjust the resolution values as needed; the example provided is for a resolution of 1600×900.
  • After setting this, launch Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered and press Alt + Enter to enter Windowed Mode.

This method is effective, but do note that you will be playing in windowed mode. If you switch back to fullscreen, the game will revert to your desktop resolution. Additionally, tools like Borderless Gaming don’t function with this collection. Nonetheless, various aspect ratios and resolutions function correctly once the command is properly entered.

If you’re playing via the GOG client, you can follow this guide to add the same launch parameters.

While there is a workaround for the windowed mode limitation, it is slightly more complex.

Switching the Desktop Resolution

An alternative method involves changing your desktop resolution to your preferred setting. Doing this forces Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered to render at the chosen desktop resolution.

This technique may provide better visual results; however, it requires switching your desktop resolution back and forth whenever you launch or exit the game.

Disabling V-Sync in Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered

If you’re looking to disable V-Sync and run the game with an uncapped frame rate, you can input the following command in both Steam and GOG:

-novsync

Keep in mind that some titles within this collection may have a locked frame rate depending on the graphics mode (such as Retro FPS) utilized.

Given Aspyr’s history with previous remastered collections, it seems unlikely that they will introduce additional graphical settings in Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered. This limitation can be somewhat frustrating for players.
