Stranger Things Season 5 Features Oscar-Nominated Dictator’s Return from Retirement

<p>One notable new contributor who sadly won’t be part of Stranger Things Season 5 is an Oscar-nominated director who returned from retirement to direct a few episodes of the popular Netflix series.

The fifth and final season of Netflix’s acclaimed show Stranger Things is currently halfway through filming, promising fans a reunion with beloved characters such as Max and Eleven very soon.

In the meantime, behind-the-scenes insights have been emerging from the production set, including details on how the series enticed Oscar-nominated director Frank Darabont out of retirement.

While discussing with The Daily Beast in celebration of the 30th anniversary of his iconic film The Shawshank Redemption, Darabont revealed what motivated him to join Netflix after stepping away from directing: “What really drew me back was my wife and I’s genuine love for this show. Most of today’s content features despicable characters driven by greed, but Stranger Things is filled with heart.”

He further elaborated, “That sense of positivity struck a chord with me. I’ve missed being on set with other creative individuals, even though I haven’t missed the industry itself… This may just be a one-off, but we still have time.”

This marks the first occasion Darabont will return to directing for a television series since he created, wrote, and directed the neo-noir crime drama Mob City on TNT, which aired for a single season from December 4 to December 18, 2013.

Darabont has an impressive resume, having contributed to several high-profile TV series, including the inaugural season of The Walking Dead, Season 6 of The Shield, and the pilot episode of Raines.

While it’s not yet confirmed which episodes will showcase his creative direction, the creators of Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer, typically handle the writing and directing of the first and last episodes of each season.
