Stranger Things Season 5 is set to conclude the critically acclaimed series, but there’s good news for fans: the Duffer Brothers have confirmed plans for exciting spinoffs, including details about the upcoming animated series.
Mark your calendars for November 26, as it marks a significant date in television history—Volume 1 of Stranger Things’ final season will debut on Netflix. Following that, fans can look forward to additional installments with Volume 2 and the climactic Season 5 finale releasing on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve of 2025, respectively.
After wrapping up Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer are set to expand their creative horizons at Paramount. They have entered into a four-year agreement to create new films, series, and streaming content through their production company, Upside Down Pictures.
Spinoffs: A New Direction for Hawkins
Despite the end of the primary storyline set in Hawkins, the Duffer Brothers will remain at the helm of forthcoming spinoffs. These new projects will include a live-action anthology series and an animated offering titled Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.
In a recent interview with SFX Magazine, the Duffer Brothers shed light on Tales From ’85, which is designed to fill a six-month narrative gap between the second and third seasons of Stranger Things. Ross Duffer explained, “It’s exciting because you get to see them as kids again, even if it’s not really again.”

Although the prospect of new stories is thrilling, it comes with a caveat: the beloved main cast from Hawkins will not reprise their roles in any form, whether voice acting for the animated series or appearing in the anthology. The Duffer Brothers affirmed, “This really is the end of the story for Eleven, Mike, Lucas, Dustin, Steve, and the rest of the crew in Hawkins.” This confirms there will be no sequels or reboots involving the original characters.
Exploring Will’s Emotions in the Final Season

In other revelations from the interview, Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, noted that the final season will uncover deeper insights into his character’s initial abduction. The season is set to open with a flashback featuring a de-aged Will, providing a nostalgic glimpse into the past.
Schnapp also shared that Season 5 will poignantly address Will’s feelings for Mike, stating, “We’ve always known Will has these feelings, and they finally explore that in a very authentic way.” He emphasized that the season will touch on a full spectrum of emotions, including fear, heartbreak, anger, and trauma.
Meanwhile, Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas, described the tone of Season 5 as a blend of elements from Seasons 1 and 4. Notably, Finn Wolfhard expressed satisfaction with Mike’s character arc, stating, “It’s more significant than I could have ever imagined.”
