Strategies to Boost Resource Production in Frostpunk 2

In Frostpunk 2, the Goods resource is often overlooked. While it may not hold the same level of importance as Food or Heating, it remains a crucial component in every playthrough. Producing Goods can help mitigate several severe negative consequences that your city may face. This is why the Goods have a specific icon or metric displayed on the central panel of your in-game UI.

To produce Goods in Frostpunk 2, it is essential to construct Industrial Districts. These Industrial Districts can be treated similarly to Housing Districts, as they do not need to be placed on designated resource tiles to extract or acquire materials. This flexibility allows you to optimize your city’s layout to enhance heating efficiency.

When positioned near each other, these districts can reduce cold effects, thereby contributing indirectly to your heating solutions since they will demand less heat.

After establishing your Industrial Districts, you can select them to access production icons, as illustrated in the image above. Keep an eye out for the icon resembling a vase or the Goods icon (similar to the Goods icon displayed on the upper panel). Industrial Districts are capable of producing various resources, and if you fail to select the Goods icon, you will not generate Goods for your settlement. The alternative icon corresponds to Prefabs, which are necessary for construction. Be prepared, as these productions will require a significant amount of Materials, so ensure you have a surplus before building.

What Do Goods Provide in Frostpunk 2?

At the beginning of the game, your city will likely start with a negative Goods metric displayed on the top panel. As your population begins consuming your natural Goods surplus, it becomes imperative to start producing Goods by constructing those Industrial Districts.

Without sufficient Goods to replenish your stockpile, crime rates in your city are likely to increase dramatically. High crime levels can lead to multiple negative repercussions, including loss of population and trust among your citizens. These factors are critical, and if you don’t resolve the Goods issue, you could face exile.

To keep your city well-supplied, aim to have at least two Industrial Districts producing Goods. However, this requires considerable resources, including workforce, Heatstamps, Prefabs, and heating. Always seek efficiency improvements by enacting laws or researching new ideas as you progress. By enhancing efficiency in other areas, the expenditure on Industrial Districts will be manageable.

Moreover, if resources are tight, focusing on efficiency improvements is vital to avoid transforming one issue into another (by constructing two Industrial Districts). You may consider starting with just one Industrial District to stabilize your dwindling Goods stockpile and plan for enhancements in the future.
