Streaming platforms have recently seen a surge in controversy as content creators navigate the cultural landscapes of various countries. Among the latest incidents is the case of Kick streamer Kelton_g, whose actions in Japan have led to significant backlash and a subsequent ban from the platform.

Japan has long been a favored destination for streamers, but increasing tensions have emerged between local customs and streamer behaviors. Notably, incidents involving streamers like Johnny Somali highlight this growing friction, as he faced legal consequences for his disruptive actions.

In September, during a subway ride, Kelton_g found himself in a confrontation with an elderly Japanese man after occupying a priority seating area. Clips from this incident quickly went viral on platforms such as X and Reddit, capturing attention for their shocking nature.

In the widely shared footage, viewers witnessed Kelton pushing the elderly individual into another seat before retaking his own. The incident ignited outrage online, with many users calling for the streamer’s deportation from Japan.

Streamer Claims Self-Defense in Viral Incident

In response to the growing fervor against him, Kelton_g sought to clarify his actions by releasing a full clip of the incident on Instagram. He stated that while his response may not have been ideal, it was a reaction to feelings of intimidation throughout the encounter.

“I promise that it was with the purpose of defending myself against the constant intimidation that was against me, ” he explained in his video.“Both parties acted poorly, the gentleman for being rude and attempting to strike me multiple times, and I for retaliating. I hope the context makes it clear that my actions were defensive and not intended to harm anyone!”

Further, he shared a story on Instagram featuring a photo with the police, expressing relief that following their investigation, he was recognized as the party acting in defense during the incident.

Despite his attempts at damage control, Kelton_g remains banned from Kick, with the duration of his suspension currently unclear.

This incident is part of a broader sentiment within Japan’s populace, as many are expressing frustration over disruptive behavior from foreign streamers. Earlier this year, reports emerged of a “wanted list” being circulated among citizens targeting streamers considered nuisances.
