Valkyrae, a popular streamer, responded to a viewer who accused her of copying fellow streamers QuarterJade and Pokimane by dyeing her hair.
Valkyrae is among the most prominent female streamers online, ranking alongside other notable figures such as Pokimane, QuarterJade, LilyPichu, and more.
Despite this, she has conveyed some frustration after discovering that she is being compared to these female figures in her industry – particularly when it comes to alterations in her physical appearance.
During a stream in August 2024, Valkyrae revealed her recently dyed dark purple hair. A viewer was quick to draw similarities between her and fellow streamer QuarterJade (real name Jodi).
Jodi currently sports a short red crop, but she has also rocked long, dark hair and even had a phase of bright purple locks in the past. This seemingly sparked a connection between the two streamers for the viewer.
“Valkyrae read aloud, “Someone in chat said, ‘She thinks she’s Jodi,’ because I dyed my hair purple?”
In addition, Valkyrae also mentioned that another fan had compared her to Pokimane even before her stream had begun. This led her to believe that the reason she had dyed her hair purple was to avoid being compared to Pokimane.
During the pre-chat, another person asked, “Did she change her hair color because she was being compared to Pokimane so often?”The speaker then responded, “Being compared to Poki and Jodi is actually a compliment. And even if I were to change my hair, what would you suggest? Should I shave my head completely?”
“It feels strange to dye my hair and constantly be compared to other women who also dye their hair. I believe that many women have dyed hair, so it’s a bit confusing for me. I’m not sure what is expected of me in this situation.”
Valk also mentioned that in previous instances where she had bleached her hair, numerous viewers on TikTok had pointed out her resemblance to Pokimane. She found it amusing because her current hair color is actually lighter than Poki’s, who has darker hair. She jokingly exclaimed, “Just look at me, I even look Asian!”
Valkyrae is correct; at the moment, Pokimane has dark brown / black hair, whereas Valk’s medium-brown locks are lighter in contrast.
Valk’s response to her viewers’ criticisms in a recent instance has sparked controversy after she responded to a fan’s comment during a May broadcast, stating that she should be married before having children.
