Street Fighter 6 Year 2 DLC: Surprise SNK Appearances and the Return of M Bison

It was previously announced that Street Fighter 6 fans would receive new content during Summer Game Fest. It was widely speculated that this would involve the second year of fighter DLC. As it turns out, this prediction was correct. However, the identity of the fighters was a surprise, as half of them are crossover characters that no one could have predicted.

The most recent Street Fighter 6 trailer features the addition of Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui from Fatal Fury, as well as the introduction of new characters Luke and Jamie to the Street Fighter series. This marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time crossover characters from an SNK property will be included in a mainline Street Fighter game.

Although SNK and Capcom characters have appeared in more recent games together, such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the last time they truly crossed over was in 2006 with SVC: Card Fighters DS. However, as the title implies, this was not a fighting game but rather a card game.

With the recent announcement, fans have been speculating about the possibility of Street Fighter characters appearing in SNK’s upcoming game, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. However, at this point, nothing has been confirmed. The two characters revealed during Summer Game Fest were B. Jenet and Vox Reaper, the latter of which incorporates moves from a previous character, Grant.

Apart from Terry and Mai, the cast of Street Fighter 6’s Year 2 character DLC will also include Elena, as seen in the trailer. Elena, who first appeared in Street Fighter 3: New Generation and later in Street Fighter 4, was not featured in Street Fighter 5. In the trailer, she is seen sporting a completely new costume, although it is possible that her Outfit 2 from Street Fighter 3 and 4 may make a return. It remains to be seen if her healing mechanic, which was often considered frustrating, will also make a comeback.

Finally, the trailer showcases a highly revamped M. Bison who will be making his debut. It will be intriguing to see how the game’s storyline addresses his supposed resurrection, and fans won’t have to wait long to find out. M. Bison is set to become available this month on June 26. The trailer also hints at the release dates for Terry (Autumn 2024), Elena (Spring 2025), and Mai (Winter 2025), in that specific order. However, considering “Winter”can encompass both January and February (as seen with Ed), it is likely that Mai will be released before Elena.
