Studio Pierrot officially announces new untitled magical girl anime series

On Saturday, June 29, 2024, Bandai Namco Filmworks and anime studio Pierrot announced that the latter is currently working on a new, untitled magical girl television anime series. Along with this news, a promotional video was released, showcasing the previous five series in the genre that the studio has produced in the 1980s and 1990s.

Along with the announcement, studio Pierrot released two images. One is a graphic featuring their previous magical girl series, while the other is an illustration seen at the end of the promotional video for the new, unnamed anime. The illustration is adorned with text that reads “I want you to sign it again.”

Furthermore, studio Pierrot has recently launched an X (formerly Twitter) account and official website for their upcoming, still untitled magical girl anime franchise. This exciting announcement coincides with the 40th anniversary of the last episode of their initial magical girl series, 1983’s Magical Angel Creamy Mami.

Pierrot Studios Announces New Untitled Magical Girl Anime Series

Regrettably, at the time of writing this article, there is currently no further information available regarding Pierrot’s new magical girl television anime series. Nevertheless, the fact that an official website and X account have already been launched suggests that fans can anticipate receiving more details on the series in the near future. It is probable that a teaser promotional video will be the initial update fans receive, followed by announcements about the starring cast.

It is possible that the new series will connect or unite all of the animation studio’s previous productions in the same genre. The focus on their past works in the initial promotional material for the forthcoming series does imply this. The text “I want you to sing it again”in the aforementioned illustration also hints at a comparable notion.

Pierrot’s previous five series, which include Magical Angel Creamy Mami, Magical Fairy Persia, Magical Star Magical Emi, Magical Idol Pastel Yumi, and Fancy Lala, ran for 52, 48, 38, 25, and 26 episodes respectively. They were aired from 1983 to 1984, 1984 to 1985, 1985 to 1986, 1986, and 1998.

Since its establishment in May 1972 by Yuji Nunokawa, Pierrot has been recognized as an internationally acclaimed Japanese animation studio. The company’s headquarters are currently situated in Mitaka, Tokyo and it is renowned for producing numerous popular anime series such as Naruto, Bleach, Tokyo Ghoul, Yu Yu Hakusho, Black Clover, Boruto, and many others.
