Since taking the crown in 2023, Chick-fil-A has been known as America’s favorite fast food joint. However, a new winner has emerged.
Chick-fil-A has consistently been named the top fast food restaurant among Gen Z consumers. In 2023, USA Today awarded them this title through their annual competition, which utilizes a panel of experts to rank the restaurants before turning it over to the public for a final decision.
In addition to being the winner last year, Chick-fil-A also emerged as the top choice when a survey was conducted to identify trends in individuals’ fast food preferences. The findings indicated that chicken is the primary protein that customers are favoring.
This trend has led to an increase in the number of competing fast food chains, including McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s, offering a larger variety of chicken-based options on their menus.
Nevertheless, the chain that emerged victorious over Chick-fil-A this year may come as a complete shock, considering it is vastly different from last year’s outcome.
Del Taco reigned victorious
The victor was none other than Del Taco, a restaurant with Mexican roots that primarily operates on the West Coast.
“The editors of USA Today’s 10 Best also noted that Del Taco offers a specialized breakfast menu and caters to vegan and vegetarian customers.”
This year, KFC took second place, with Chick-fil-A being bumped down to third.
“Chick-fil-A has become a beloved choice for many, with even their amiable cow mascots promoting the message to ‘eat mor chikin’.’ The eatery provides a range of chicken-based options on their menu such as nuggets and salads, but their signature chicken sandwich has consistently held the top spot as the most popular item at Chick-fil-A for at least two consecutive years, according to the ranking.”
