On June 4th, Suzy, the main actress in the film “Wonderland”, was interviewed at a cafe located in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
The upcoming film “Wonderland,”directed by Kim Tae-yong, explores the concept of reuniting with lost loved ones through a video call service app called ‘Wonderland.’ Utilizing AI technology, the app is able to bring deceased individuals back to life. The star-studded cast for “Wonderland,”including Tang Wei (Kim Tae-yong’s wife), Park Bo-gum, Choi Woo-sik, Jung Yu-mi, Suzy, and a special appearance by Gong Yoo, has garnered much attention leading up to its June 5th premiere.
In the film, Suzy portrays the role of Jeong-in, the romantic partner of Park Bo-gum’s character Tae-joo, who revives him in Wonderland while he is unconscious. Upon waking up in this mysterious world, Tae-joo experiences a sense of unfamiliarity and bewilderment. This marks Suzy’s comeback to the silver screen after a gap of five years, following her previous project “Doona!”which was released on Netflix last year.
Having first met as co-hosts of the 54th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2018, Suzy and Park Bo-gum have developed a unique bond while continuously working together as MCs for several events. Their exceptional chemistry and teamwork on stage has been evident, and they recently had the opportunity to collaborate in their primary profession for the first time on the show “Wonderland”.
During their time as MCs, Suzy and Park Bo-gum used formal language, but in the movie, they speak informally to each other. Suzy revealed, “While we were shooting, the staff noticed how well we got along. Since our characters were lovers who filmed a video of themselves in the past, we had to use informal language and playfully tease each other to convey our relationship. As a result, we grew closer. Even when we weren’t filming, we would dance and have fun during breaks. I would often dance and make funny gestures.”
Suzy sparked even higher anticipation from her fans when she shared a lengthy post about her character Tae-joo on her personal SNS account. As a result, the public’s interest in the Suzy and Park Bogum pairing, as well as their on-screen chemistry, received an overwhelming response.
Suzy explained that her motivation for writing was to fully understand her character and their relationship within the script. She also sought advice from the director, who praised her for adding additional depth to the story. Although a scene she filmed in the form of an interview did not make it into the final movie, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with co-star Bo-gum and credited her writing for helping her fully immerse herself in the story. She also thanked fans for their support and appreciation of their on-screen chemistry.
Suzy beamed and revealed, “Tang Wei expressed during her interview here yesterday, ‘I wish the two of them are actually in a relationship’,”before adding, “I came across the articles about it and I’m so thankful. It shows that we make a great couple.”
