The recent disclosure that NCT member Taeil attended a fan gathering while facing allegations of sexual assault has caused great debate and disagreement among fans.
Despite the controversy surrounding the issue, a spokesperson from SM Entertainment addressed the situation in an interview with Newsen on the 29th. They stated that both the company and Taeil were initially informed of the allegations in mid-August and Taeil had already undergone police questioning on the 28th. The lawsuit was only brought to their attention after the fan meeting.
On the 28th, SM Entertainment announced that Taeil had been involved in a criminal case regarding sexual assault. After carefully considering the gravity of the situation, it was determined that Taeil would no longer be able to participate in group activities and discussions were held with him regarding his departure.
The Seoul Bangbae Police Station received a report in June from an individual stating that they had been sexually assaulted by Taeil. The investigation is still in progress.
Despite being sued, Taeil continued his activities, which is the main issue.
Taeil performed on stage at the NCT 127 8th Anniversary Fan Meeting, which took place on the 3rd and 4th of this month at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Songpa-gu, Seoul, before the allegations were made public.
Despite Taeil’s appearance with a smile in front of fans after news of the lawsuit broke, he faced backlash on platforms like X (formerly Twitter). Comments such as “How shameless”and “The group’s quick decision to expel him shows the severity of the situation”were prevalent.
After the news of Taeil’s sexual assault allegations broke, Taeyong and Doyoung, who are both members of the same group, swiftly unfollowed him on Instagram, indicating a swift separation from him.
In addition, SM Entertainment recently modified their fan communication platform Weverse by replacing the group photo with one that does not include Taeil. They also chose to no longer follow his account on their official Instagram.
Furthermore, the group’s schedule was greatly affected due to the postponement of fan sign events for members Jaehyun, Mark, and Haechan.
