Taylor Sheridan’s Lioness Features a Surprising Cast Member from Yellowstone You Might Have Overlooked

Not only is Taylor Sheridan making an appearance in Lioness, but a former star from Yellowstone is also featured in Paramount’s latest spy series.

In Season 2 of Lioness, viewers have already enjoyed a cameo from Sheridan, who effortlessly embodies the most charismatic character on screen. However, a familiar face from Yellowstone may have gone unnoticed by some avid fans.

This isn’t just any cast member, though. It’s none other than Lee Dutton, whose tragic death sparks the central conflict of Sheridan’s acclaimed Western series.

Lee Dutton, portrayed by Dave Annable in the inaugural season, meets his end in Kayce’s arms during an intense confrontation over cattle that pits Kayce, his kin, against his brother-in-law.

This pivotal moment represents John Dutton’s deepest fears concerning his family’s legacy and land, initiating an ongoing struggle for their heritage.

While Annable’s tenure on Yellowstone was brief, he takes on a significantly more substantial role in Lioness as Neal, the husband of Joe. Neal is a surgeon managing parenting their daughters while Joe is engaged in her undercover CIA operations.

Fans might find it easy to overlook Annable’s character since his appearance as Neal is markedly different from his portrayal of Lee Dutton. This shift is understandable as Yellowstone co-star Kevin Costner requested he dye his naturally gray hair for the role of his on-screen son.

Reflecting on his decision to keep his natural hair for Lioness, Annable remarked, “On Yellowstone, I asked about keeping it, and bless Mr. [Kevin] Costner, he insisted, ‘No – you’re dying it. I don’t want to look that old.’ So, I understood and complied.”

Annable did reprise his role in Yellowstone later on, appearing in Season 4 during Kayce’s “vision quest,”where he seeks clarity about his future while confronting his past. As Annable shared with The Hollywood Reporter, “Once a Dutton, always a Dutton!”
