Tecno unveils triple-folding phone & it’s extremely thin

The competition to launch the first triple-foldable phone is intensifying with Tecno joining the ranks of brands preparing to release next-generation foldable devices.

Despite Samsung’s dominant position in global foldable smartphone sales, other brands are also making strides in the field of innovation. Huawei has announced plans to release the first-ever tri-fold smartphone, while Tecno has revealed its own triple folding concept device.

The Tecno Phantom Ultimate 2, unlike other book-styled foldable phones that have displays of up to 8 inches, can be transformed into a larger 10-inch tablet when unfolded.

Tecno asserts that the Phantom Ultimate 2 is the slimmest of all triple-folding phones, although they have not yet encountered one in real life.

The phone’s thickness measures at 11.1mm, which is just slightly thicker than the top foldable phones from Samsung and Google.

Although Tecno has not revealed all the technical details of the device, it did state that the battery is only 0.25 millimeters in thickness, contributing to the phone’s lightweight and slim design.

The company additionally asserts that the hinges have been subjected to testing and can endure 300,000 folds.

The 3K OLED panel of the Phantom Ultimate 2 can be unfolded to create a 10-inch tablet with a 4:3 aspect ratio, while remaining at a 6.48-inch display when folded. The phone utilizes two hinges that fold in opposite directions, allowing it to fold into three equal parts without the need for an external display.

In addition, Tecno has demonstrated numerous practical applications for the dual hinges featured on this phone. The device can function as a laptop with two separate display screens, while the third screen can serve as a keyboard for input. Additionally, the tent mode offers a convenient way to watch movies or take notes while on a call.

This is not the first time we have seen a folding phone with three sections. In April of this year, Samsung was granted a patent for tri-fold and rollable display technology, while Huawei’s triple-foldable phone is set to be released for sale in September.

Despite Tecno’s promise of a triple-foldable phone that can fit a large tablet in your pocket, there is no certainty that it will be available for purchase. Nevertheless, the concept showcases the potential of mobile devices in the future, pushing the limits of screen size and portability.
