Authorities in Thailand have apprehended former SEA Games player Naphat Warasin, popularly known as Tokyogurl, alongside semi-professional player Chaiyo, alias Cheerio, in relation to a significant cheating scandal during the 33rd SEA Games held in Bangkok. Both individuals have reportedly confessed to the charges against them.
The Crime Suppression Division has verified that they are facing computer crime allegations connected to the Arena of Valor competition that took place on December 16, 2025. Investigators claim that Tokyogurl and Cheerio conspired to share unauthorized access credentials and illegally obtained secured data throughout the tournament. According to Pol Maj Gen Phatthanasak Bupphasuwan, commander of the CSD, the misconduct stemmed from Tokyogurl reportedly using prohibited software and employing a substitute player during critical matches.
Details of the Cheating Scheme
The fraud was first detected during a match between Thailand and Vietnam, where investigators noted abnormal login attempts. Additional evidence in the form of chat records reportedly indicated that the two players were coordinating actions while competing. Following an internal investigation, tournament organizers took immediate action by expelling Tokyogurl and disqualifying Thailand’s women’s team, labeling the incident a remote-play fraud.

A search conducted in their residence in Nonthaburi yielded incriminating evidence stored on mobile devices, which were allegedly used for orchestrating the cheating strategy. During the interrogation, Cheerio confessed to playing remotely using software on Tokyogurl’s phone, thereby acting as a third party in the scheme.
A video documenting their arrest has circulated online.
The judicial process commenced with formal charges filed at the Pathumwan Kwaeng Court on February 6, with a decision expected on March 17. Under the Computer Crime Act, the penalties for such offenses can include imprisonment of up to two years, fines reaching 40, 000 baht (approximately $1, 200 USD), or both, as reported by Thai media outlet Siamsport.
This scandal gained traction when Thailand’s women’s Arena of Valor team unexpectedly withdrew from the competition despite being in contention for medals. Initially, Tokyogurl refuted any accusations of wrongdoing, attributing her withdrawal to health issues. However, Cheerio later openly took accountability for stepping in as her replacement, issuing apologies to fans and officials alike.
Santi Lohtong, president of the Thailand Esports Federation, expressed that this incident has severely tarnished the federation’s reputation, the national team’s integrity, and Thailand’s standing in the esports community. Consequently, both players have received lifetime bans from participating in competitive esports.
