Thank you Ryan Reynolds for not making Lady Deadpool a Swiftie nightmare

Thank you Ryan Reynolds for not making Lady Deadpool a Swiftie nightmare

Despite initial rumors, it would not have been a negative situation if Taylor Swift had been cast as Lady Deadpool. Fortunately, Ryan Reynolds does not have any negative consequences coming his way.

To be polite, it is customary to begin any Taylor Swift article with as many song references as possible. However, it is crucial to note that Taylor is not Lady Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine, despite much speculation. The role has instead been given to Reynolds’ actual wife, Blake Lively.

Despite her reputation for staying quiet, the singer has still played a significant role in the success of the new Marvel movie. In fact, she recently encouraged fans to watch the third installment of Deadpool, which was created by her “godkids’ sperm donor.”It’s worth noting that she first appeared in the iconic Deadpool suit in 2016, borrowing it from Reynolds himself.

Despite her presence on screen, including a memorable debut in Cats and a scene in which she was shoved under a moving car in Amsterdam, Taylor Swift’s connection to the MCU ends here (at least for now). And honestly, this only improves the potential for Deadpool & Wolverine, as a full reveal of Lady Deadpool would have been one celebrity cameo too many… for a particular reason.

Fans are Down Bad for chaos

In the Western pop culture Venn diagram, there is significant overlap between Marvel and Taylor Swift fans. This is not only due to their shared tendency to be overly enthusiastic, but also because they consistently crave more content and tirelessly hunt for obscure Easter eggs, all while openly expressing their numerous critiques online.

Despite my attempts to enjoy a good superhero movie or a harmless pop song on Spotify, the overwhelming fan culture surrounding popular franchises like Marvel and Taylor Swift can create a thankless environment. As someone who is not fully invested in either fandom, I am constantly reminded of the deep and complex lore surrounding these cultural juggernauts. I just want to be able to live in the moment without feeling bogged down by decades of history that I may not fully comprehend.

Both fanbases have not only imposed this expectation on themselves, but also on the beloved works they claim to admire. Consequently, the creative output has become less genuine and more commercialized. In the case of Marvel, this is evident in the proliferation of post-credit scenes, excessive cameos, and a constant stream of projects being churned out at a pace that makes it difficult to secure a ticket to San Diego Comic-Con.

Tay Tay is facing a similar problem. Over the past four years, she has put out a staggering eight albums, and even her fellow musicians are starting to tire (remember the infamous eye-rolling incident at the 2024 Grammys?). Her latest surprise release, The Tortured Poets Department, is a double album with more than 40 songs… and let’s be real, who has the time for all of that?

It’s All Too Well Taylor Swift isn’t a Deadpool (sorry, last one)

It is clear that I am suggesting that we have already watched this movie and were dissatisfied with the outcome. The two characters are identical and do not need to team up. If the fan bases come together, it will be a disastrous situation and we may witness something worse than death itself.

Imagine this: if you already believe that the internet is full of trolls expressing their unnecessary opinions, then consider this scenario. It would be reminiscent of the Targaryen Civil War, except instead of dragons, it would be fans hurling insults in 140 characters or less. Taylor Swift would probably be depicted on a ridiculous popcorn container, and Marvel fans would face difficulties obtaining tickets due to the resilient Swifties who have endured countless Ticketmaster Wars.

Despite hoping for the best, we cannot dismiss the possibility. There have been rumors of Swift potentially portraying Dazzler in the MCU, but the character has not been featured on the big screen yet. While there is no concrete evidence to support this, we should not lower our vigilance as Swift is reportedly planning another world tour for 2026.

Meanwhile, it is essential that we express our endless gratitude to Ryan Reynolds. With his role as Deadpool & Wolverine, the star has successfully prevented the world from collapsing during a time when we were not equipped to handle it.

While some fans may not agree with all of the decisions made in the superhero movie, it is clear that the director has failed to generate pure excitement by making the Deadpool Corps a family affair. However, we remain content and grateful for the overall experience.

You can catch Deadpool & Wolverine in theaters currently. Although Taylor Swift isn’t featured as Deadpool, be sure to watch out for different versions of him, learn about Wolverine’s beginnings, and understand the post-credits scene. Additionally, be on the lookout for the newest streaming movies this month.
