Although it is not set in the present day, The Decameron addresses timeless class conflicts. Similarly, Parasite, Triangle of Sadness, and The White Lotus, the new television series, all examine inequality amidst widespread turmoil.

Mamet gained recognition for her role in HBO’s GIRLS, while Hale is best known for his work on the political satire Veep and the cult classic Arrested Development.

The Decameron plot
The Decameron tells the story of a group of aristocrats and their domestic helpers taking refuge in a villa in Florence during the outbreak of the Black Death plague in 1348.
In Boccaccio’s The Decameron, a group of nobles and servants residing at the Villa Santa, located just outside of Florence, pass the time during the ravages of the bubonic plague by sharing stories with one another. Through these tales, the stark contrast between the wealthy and the poor is revealed.
As time goes by and manners decline, the Netflix series still maintains its main premise, but the extravagant displays of wealth and stories of excess gradually shift into a desperate fight for survival.
Like other shows such as Yellowjackets, Class of 07, and The Wilds, this new series explores what occurs when the rules are thrown out the window and traditional roles no longer apply. However, in this series, the spotlight is on the divisions between social classes.
Hale informed TUDUM, “When a pandemic strikes, everything becomes equal once again.”
Kathleen Jordan, the creator, viewed the source material as “brief and provocative stories.”
She wandered away with its remains, stating that in moments of distress, the gap between the wealthy and the impoverished continues to increase. This is a trend that has been observed in recent years, especially during the Covid pandemic.
Villa Santa’s approach will mirror that of other previously mentioned projects, infusing dark humor and satire into the alcohol-drenched environment.
Jessica Plummer, who plays the role of noblewoman Filomena, drew a comparison between the secluded drama and a reality show. She described it as “Love Island, but set in the past. There’s plenty of drama, romance, and wild antics.”

The cast is featured in their lavish costumes and secluded villa. Hale portrays the eager-to-please steward Sirisco, Jackon plays the co-dependent servant Misia, and Mamet takes on the role of the naive soon-to-be lady, Pampinea.
It is probable that a complete trailer will be released closer to the premiere.
