The director of Parasite will sign the most expensive Korean film in history

Parasite director Bong Joon-ho is set to make the most expensive film in Korean cinema history.

Over the past few years, the Korean thriller Parasite has become one of the most revered and acclaimed films in modern cinema. The viewer is invited to follow the Kim family, victims of their very weak social condition, as they seize a golden opportunity. When the son begins to work for the rich Park family, the members of the group succeed in intruding into the house to parasitize it.

The acclaimed film was released in 2019, so it’s time for director Bong Joon-ho to move on. And this other thing is already promising, if the more than substantial budget that has been allocated to it is to be believed. We are even talking about the most expensive feature film in the history of Korean cinema!

Parasite director will make the most expensive Korean film in history

Critically acclaimed director Bong Joon-ho is set to direct the most expensive film in Korean cinema history.

According to a report from Daum, Bong Joon-ho’s next project is estimated to be worth around 70 billion won, or around $52 million. The film will be animated, with worldwide distribution from Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse team.

In addition to this animated film, Bong Joon-ho is working on Mickey17, an adaptation of Ashton Edward’s science fiction book, the date of which has been constantly postponed. The crazy casting, however, is enough to make the public salivate: we find Robert Pattinson in the title role, alongside Toni Collette, to tell the story of a “disposable” employee sent to colonize a frozen planet.

Neither the animated film nor Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey17 have a release date at this point.
