In the latest installment of the Battlefield franchise, Battlefield 6 introduces a significant gameplay element: Open Weapons. This feature allows players from any class to wield a variety of weapons. However, there’s a critical caveat: only the Recon class can achieve consistent accuracy with sniper rifles. Players from other classes may encounter random bullet deviations, resulting in missed shots even when aiming directly at a target.
This peculiar aspect was highlighted by popular streamer Stodeh in a post on October 13, where he demonstrated the issue at the firing range. Despite meticulous aim, his sniper rifle missed two shots in succession before finally hitting the target on his third try. Stodeh expressed his frustration, tagging Florian ‘DRUNKKZ3′ Le Bihan, the principal game designer for Battlefield 6, stating, “Snipers are NOT 100% Accurate unless you are playing Recon class. Doesn’t say anywhere.” His commentary sheds light on the unexpected randomness in shooting mechanics for sniper rifles used by other classes.
Snipers are NOT 100% Accurate unless you are playing Recon class. Doesn’t say anywhere @DRUNKKZ3 If you use a sniper on any other class, you will randomly MISS even if completely still and controlling the sway #Battlefield6 pic.twitter.com/eRSCfBkJCJ

Following the initial backlash, Stodeh mentioned that this mechanic was not present during the beta phase and was “silently added”before the official launch, sparking further discussion among the player community.
Another contentious point has been the introduction of “bloom, ”which refers to the random bullet deviation in automatic weapons, designed to encourage burst-fire strategies. It’s now clear that this mechanic extends to bolt-action rifles for non-Recon classes, meaning players can squander ideal shooting opportunities due to unpredictable shot outcomes.
The Recon class is uniquely equipped for sniper rifles, with descriptions highlighting their enhanced marksmanship abilities, including reduced weapon sway, faster rechambering, and improved breath control for steadier aim.
In response to concerns about this mechanic, some players have suggested that weapon sway might be a contributing factor. However, Stodeh firmly rebutted this claim, stating, “Scope in for as long as you want. Use a bipod. Go prone. Do whatever you want. The shot will still miss every few attempts.”
Community Reactions on the Sniper Accuracy Change
Reactions from players regarding the accuracy nerf for snipers have been mixed. Some users argue that the random miss mechanic serves as a penalty for using weapons outside their designated classes, aligning with a sense of realism. A player commented, “I actually like that and it makes sense from a specialist perspective. This also goes nicely with weapons being opened [in my opinion].”
Another player noted, “It makes sense if you really think about it. That [kind of] balances sniper spam since the classes are open.” Such perspectives indicate a segment of the community supports this change as a way to enhance game balance.
I’m really enjoying Battlefield 6. BUT: They made an entire open weapon system. Forced it on the community. Now they punish you for using said system because it wasn’t balanced?? THIS WAS NOT IN BETA. Snipers were accurate on all classes. This was added silently, not in patch… https://t.co/x0GwFPHd65

On the opposite side, criticism has emerged from those who believe the mechanics are detrimental. One user questioned, “Why is this a thing? Nobody asked for this, ” while another expressed disbelief, stating, “People are trying to justify having random bullets that don’t go in the direction of aiming. Crazy.”
As of now, DICE has yet to provide a response to the sniper rifle bloom issue. Consequently, players using sniper rifles in classes other than Recon may find their experience frustrating, as they face the risk of missing shots they would otherwise hit in conventional gameplay.
