The hypocrisy is insane: Bleach fans defend Ichigo from carried by daddy genes allegations with a reference to Gon from Hunter X Hunter

Despite the passage of time since the release of the second part of the Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War anime, there are still fans from other fandoms who hold negative opinions towards the series and its main character. This is due to the fact that it is not uncommon to come across anime fans who disrespect Ichigo Kurosaki by labeling him as a character who relies solely on his parent’s genetics.

It is well-known amongst fans that Ichigo Kurosaki, the main character of Bleach, is the offspring of Isshin and Masaki Kurosaki. Isshin, who was previously the leader of the Shiba clan, was a Shinigami, while Ichigo’s mother, Masaki, was an Echt Quincy. This unique ancestry resulted in Ichigo being born as a Human, Shinigami, Quincy, and Hollow.

Therefore, numerous anime enthusiasts believed that Ichigo’s abilities were inherited from his genetics and would often refer to him as a character “carried by daddy genes.”

Why Did Fans Defend Ichigo Kurosaki in the Bleach Series?

In April of 2024, a fan of anime shared a tier list on X @JidanSekh (formerly known as Twitter) that highlighted which characters had natural abilities versus those who had to work hard. The tier list featured Ichigo Kurosaki and Boruto Uzumaki in a category titled “Carried by parental genes.”

As anticipated, the tier list was not accepted by many fans due to their favorite main character from other anime being placed in the wrong tier. As a result, there were not many fans defending Ichigo Kurosaki.

Therefore, even though it was over a month later, a devoted fan of Bleach, X @Jennoeloves1ck, stepped up and supported the main character of the series. According to the tier list, Gon Freecss was deemed a “gifted”character rather than solely relying on his genetics. Nevertheless, a comparison between the two characters clearly showed that one had to work harder to achieve their strength.

Despite being the son of Ging Freecss, one of the strongest and most mysterious Hunters, Gon Freecss went largely unnoticed by others.

“Anitwitter: ichigo is carried by daddy genes. The hypocrisy is insane,”one fan said.

Despite being born without any natural fighting instinct and having his reiatsu almost entirely sealed, Ichigo managed to survive the grueling final training at Soul King Palace. However, some fans hypocritically labeled him as a character who was simply “carried by genes.”@Jennoeloves1ck pointed out this hypocrisy.

It was clear to numerous Bleach enthusiasts that those who labelled Ichigo as a character who relied solely on his father’s abilities had not actually viewed the series. As a result, their viewpoint was biased and inaccurate.

“Only people saying that haven’t read or watched the content,”another fan said.

“He nearly died in every training tbh lol,”another said.

“you say this as if Gon has “fighting genes”from his dad. uh… combat prowess cannot be passed down genetically. that’s not how genetics works,”other fan said.

Meanwhile, some anime enthusiasts adopted a more relaxed attitude towards the subject, considering the intense training sessions that Ichigo endured in order to become stronger and unlock his powers, which often resulted in near-death experiences. This aspect was slightly off-putting for them.

Finally, several fans came to Gon Freecss’ defense. Although Gon was Ging Freecss’ son, this did not automatically guarantee that he would inherit his father’s “fighting genes.”Therefore, it was nonsensical for the Bleach fan to claim that Ichigo was born without any fighting instinct, as inheriting such traits would have been impossible from the start.
