A previously undiscovered art piece from Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 18 has been brought to light, exposing creator Gege Akutami’s surprising favorite character.
Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen have long been familiar with its creator’s captivating personal style. He is known for his tendency to unexpectedly kill off important characters and is also unapologetic in his treatment of his own characters, as evidenced by his vocal disdain for the beloved Gojo.
Despite his affection for certain characters, Akutami has not shied away from making difficult choices in his storytelling. In fact, he previously declared Kento Nanami as his favorite in the series. However, this did not prevent him from having Nanami meet a tragic end during the Shibuya Incident, with Yuji witnessing the brutal event.
Due to this, there is a growing suspicion among fans that Sukuna has always been Akutami’s true favorite character. In the series, Sukuna is the only one who consistently receives plot armor, leading readers to believe that the author is determined to keep the villain alive at any cost.
Despite already causing a stir among his fans, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen has once again left them in a frenzy by announcing his new favorite. In the extras for Volume 18, Akutami depicted himself as his cat avatar (the persona he adopts to maintain his anonymity) presenting Valentine’s chocolate to Choso.

In Japan, it is customary to give Valentine’s chocolates to someone you admire, whether in a romantic or platonic manner. By giving Choso the chocolates, Akutami showed that he has a strong admiration for the eldest Death Painting.
It is also logical to conclude that Choso is among the greatest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. Initially introduced as an antagonist, he is driven by a desire for revenge after his brothers are killed by Yuji and Nobara. However, their battle in Shibuya triggers his false memories and uncovers his true connection with the main character.
Despite being his favorite, Akutami has once again shown that it holds little importance as Choso ultimately meets his demise in the series. Despite this, ever since then, he has continued to act as a devoted and safeguarding big brother towards Yuji. In a selfless act, he sacrifices himself for Yuji, leaving his shocked little brother to witness his passing.
