The latest installment of Jujutsu Kaisen, chapter 268, not only concluded the Shinjuku Showdown with Ryomen Sukuna’s downfall, but also showcased the long-awaited and heartfelt reunion of the beloved trio consisting of Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki.
Furthermore, the chapter showcased a comical yet unforgettable scene in which both Nobara and Megumi received individual letters from their previous teacher, Satoru Gojo.
Despite his usual playful approach, Gojo finally disclosed to Megumi in his letter that his father, Toji Fushiguro, had passed away a long time ago and that Gojo himself was responsible for his death. The official translation of the letter in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 268 took a darker and more amusing tone compared to the fan translation.
Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 268: Official Translation of Gojo’s Letter to Megumi Adds Humor to His Confession
With the publication of chapter 268 of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gege Akutami’s masterpiece is rapidly approaching its inevitable finale.
Chapter 268 of Jujutsu Kaisen, specifically, showcased numerous amusing and heartwarming scenes involving the cherished main trio of the story, now that the danger posed by Ryomen Sukuna and Kenjaku has been resolved.
In a notable moment of the chapter, Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki were shown receiving letters written by Satoru Gojo before his ultimate battle with Sukuna. In the letter directed to Nobara, Gojo disclosed that he had successfully located her mother and shared her whereabouts with her, in case she desired to find her.
Nevertheless, Gojo’s letter to Megumi disclosed that his father had been absent for a long time, and Gojo himself was responsible for his death. As expected, Gojo offered his apologies to Megumi in his usual lighthearted and playful manner.
Gojo’s letter to Megumi in the fan translation includes the following words, written by the blindfolded jokester:
“Unfortunately, your daddy’s dead and burried! ‘Cuz I killed the dude!!”
Underneath this disclosure, Gojo playfully sketched a self-portrait and uttered “Sowwy!”as a humorous way of conveying his regret for taking the life of Megumi’s father. It can be confidently stated that this is precisely how any avid fan of Jujutsu Kaisen would have imagined Gojo revealing the news of Toji Fushiguro’s demise to Megumi.
However, the official translation of Gojo’s letter in chapter 268 of Jujutsu Kaisen took things to a higher level by including the following translation of Gojo’s message:
“Sorry, Megumi. But your dad’s a goner!! I wasted his a*s!!”
The contrast between the two translations is clear – one accurately portrays Gojo’s lighthearted personality and use of dark humor, while the other is more daring yet still captures his typical style of speech.
Despite the initial surprise among fans over the official translation of Gojo’s letter to Megumi, they soon came to appreciate its humor and how well it fit Gojo’s character. In fact, many even commended John Werry, who typically handles official translations, stating that this was possibly the first instance where he surpassed the fan translation of a chapter.
