The Perfect Setup for a Sequel: Analyzing the Ending of The Wolf

Apple TV+’s latest comedy, “Wolfs,”reunites the iconic duo of George Clooney and Brad Pitt for the first time in 16 years. The conclusion of “Wolfs”has already set the stage for a potential sequel that could bring them together once again.

Clooney and Pitt deliver strong performances as their characters don black leather and exchange colorful banter in this new action-comedy directed by Jon Watts. However, their journey may just be the beginning.

Plans are underway for a sequel to this action-packed film. While it remains to be seen if this is a wise decision (check out our Wolfs review for our thoughts), it’s clear that the groundwork for a follow-up has already been laid.

Here’s a detailed explanation of the “Wolfs”ending, insights into any sequels in development, and predictions about what lies ahead for Margaret and Pam’s men. (Warning: spoilers ahead!)

Wolfs Ending Explained

“Wolfs”concludes with Kid safely returned home after the three men successfully return the stolen drugs.

After a harrowing drop-off fraught with bloodshed, it appears there’s a silver lining for Margaret’s man (Clooney), Pam’s man (Pitt), and Kid (Austin Abrams), who returns home following a long and chaotic night.

After dropping Kid off, Clooney and Pitt’s characters head out for breakfast, finally reaching some form of understanding after their tumultuous experience. However, just as Clooney’s character prepares to leave, Pitt’s character delivers a bombshell—Pam (played by Frances McDormand) said something eerily similar to what Margaret (Amy Ryan) had told him.

This revelation indicates that their forced partnership was no coincidence, and that both men were indeed hired by the same “guy.”

The two quickly deduce that the “Guy”was aware of the drug operation. (This explains the camera in the hotel room—it was for surveillance.) The “Guy”likely presumed Kid was dead, prompting him to deploy his men for the drug drop-off instead.

He would have only realized Kid was alive when he caught sight of him fleeing through Chinatown. Consequently, he alerted Dimitri (Zlatko Burić), which explains why he didn’t execute Clooney and Pitt’s characters when he spotted them together. Sadly, however, his bodyguard didn’t receive the same heads-up.

The “Guy”probably anticipated that Kid wouldn’t be included in the drug drop-off, and that Clooney and Pitt would be caught in an ambush. What started as a drop-off turned into a deadly shootout, leaving them to question their survival. (“We were getting cleaned.”)

What was the motive behind all this? The drug lord Legrange was attempting to relocate his purloined drugs, inciting a war with the Albanians to eliminate his competition, essentially plunging the city into chaos.

As they come to this realization, they spot armed men approaching from outside. They have been located. Hiding beneath the window, they load their pistols in preparation for an imminent confrontation. They then exchange names: Margaret’s man is Jack, and Pam’s man is Nick.

The film concludes with both men leaping up and firing through the window.

A Wolfs Sequel is Already in Development

Apple TV+ confirmed on August 7 that Jon Watts will be returning to script a sequel to “Wolfs.”

This announcement came well ahead of “Wolfs’”release. Though the streamer hasn’t officially confirmed George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s involvement in reprising their roles, Deadline reported that both stars are expected to return.

“‘Wolfs’ exemplifies the kind of major event film that makes Apple TV+ a premier platform for high-quality entertainment,” said Matt Dentler, head of features at Apple Original Films.

“With George and Brad’s incredible chemistry under Jon Watts’ direction, ‘Wolfs’ combines comedy, action, and drama for an engaging cinematic experience that will leave viewers eager for what’s next.

“Debuting the film in theaters before it becomes available on Apple TV+ provides the best of both worlds for audiences, and we are thrilled to see the response as we collaborate with Jon on the sequel.”

What Could “Wolfs 2″be About?

The conclusion of “Wolfs”lays the groundwork for intriguing mysteries in the sequel: who is the mysterious figure behind Clooney and Pitt’s characters, and what led him to eliminate them?

The final scene hints at a complex hierarchy within the fixing organization that Margaret and Pam’s men operate in. Additionally, it’s apparent that the individual who orchestrated their involvement was manipulating events to end their lives, sending thugs to silence them in the diner afterward.

If a sequel with Clooney and Pitt is on the horizon, we can infer that they survived the diner confrontation. Thus, they must evade their impending doom, likely by eliminating the figure orchestrating the hit.

Furthermore, they have to navigate the aftermath of the drug ambush, which threatens to destabilize the entire city.

The initial film focused on the reluctant partnership between the two characters, but by the end, they develop a semblance of friendship, which offers the sequel a fresh dynamic to explore.

Regardless, it seems they will have to devise a plan to survive the hit placed on them.

“Wolfs”is currently available to stream on Apple TV+.
