On April 28, tragedy struck in St Andrew, Jamaica when 25-year-old TikTok star Jabari Johnson, popularly known as Baba Skeng, was shot while gaming online with a friend outside a local shop. The horrifying incident unfolded live on his stream.
A man, obscured by a dark hoodie and dressed entirely in black, appeared in the background. Without warning, he brandished a handgun and opened fire on Johnson, striking him multiple times before fleeing the scene.

The swift response from authorities confirmed Johnson’s tragic death. His father, well-known reggae musician Jah Mason, revealed the heartbreaking news to the Jamaica Observer. A full investigation into the murder has been initiated, but currently, no arrests have been made.

In the wake of Johnson’s death, numerous fans took to social media to express their sorrow. Comments flooded in, such as, “Can’t believe I’m saying this but R. I.P J. B.Fly high twin, ” and “Rest in Love my baby, ” showcasing the profound impact he had on his community.
Unfortunately, Baba Skeng is not the first TikTok or live-streaming personality to fall victim to violence. Reports from The Daily Mail highlight that in 2024, another Jamaican TikToker, Xavier ‘Niah Gang’ Fogah, was murdered. Shortly after, Marlon ‘41 Busshead’ Samuels was also shot dead in Montego Bay.
Moreover, not only male TikTokers are targeted. In a shocking incident in 2023, a TikToker known as a “Narco Queen” was gunned down in broad daylight as she headed to a nail salon. This senseless act of violence led to the assailant receiving a life sentence and wreaked havoc in the courtroom during proceedings.
