TWICE Tzuyu Sparks Controversy by Changing Group’s Birthday Tradition With Simple Request

In the fast-paced world of K-pop, it can be difficult to uphold traditions, especially for a large group like TWICE, which consists of nine members.

Jihyo, the leader of TWICE, recently shared a moving story on Mono Tube’s channel about how a simple request from their youngest member, Tzuyu, changed one of their beloved traditions.

Despite being one of the most renowned girl groups in the entertainment industry, TWICE’s calendar is filled with various commitments such as concerts, studio sessions, and promotional events. With such a busy schedule, it can be challenging to remember personal milestones like birthdays. In light of this, Jihyo shared the reason behind their choice to not exchange birthday presents.

“We decided not to give birthday gifts because we are too busy and would feel sad if someone forgot,”said Jihyo.

However, they chose to go for a more uncomplicated and all-encompassing approach to commemorate each individual’s unique occasion:

“So, we agreed to just throw a birthday party instead of giving gifts.”

This method gave them the opportunity to spend time together without the burden of having to remember and organize individual gifts, which appeared to be the ideal solution – until Tzuyu expressed a different viewpoint.

During one of their conversations, Tzuyu, who was born in 1999 and lovingly referred to as the group’s “maknae”or youngest member, mentioned her wish to revive their past custom of exchanging birthday presents.

“One day, Tzuyu asked, ‘Can we go back to giving birthday gifts?’”Jihyo recounted.

The group’s response was immediate and supportive, as her simple yet powerful request conveyed her love for her fellow members and her desire to commemorate their birthdays in a more intimate and significant manner.

“And we were like, ‘Yeah, why not! Let’s do it!’”Jihyo recalled with a smile.

Despite the difficulties posed by logistics, the members of TWICE’s choice to resume giving gifts showcases the strong connection and mutual admiration shared among them.
