Twitch has publicly addressed the troubling incident involving popular streamer Emiru, who was assaulted during a meet-and-greet at TwitchCon 2025. In response to this and related security concerns, the platform has announced several upcoming changes to enhance safety at future events.
The unsettling event took place at the San Diego Convention Center, where a man assaulted Emiru by inappropriately grabbing her without consent. In the wake of the incident, which Twitch initially labeled as “completely unacceptable, ”Emiru later disclosed that the assailant had easily breached multiple security barriers and even exited the venue without being detained.
Emiru criticized Twitch’s security response, stating they were slow to act and alleging that the platform misrepresented the facts in their initial statements.“In Twitch’s statement, they said that the guy was immediately caught and detained. I’m sorry, but that is a blatant lie, ” she asserted.“He was allowed to walk away from my meet and greet, and I didn’t hear he was caught until hours after he attacked me.”
On October 24, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy released a detailed statement addressing the incident and outlining steps for improvement in future TwitchCons.
TwitchCon Security Enhancements Announced
In his statement, Clancy acknowledged the failures that led to the incident and the subsequent mismanagement of communications.“We mismanaged our communications about the incident, and that includes the comments I made. I apologize to Emiru for all that took place, ” he expressed.
The Twitch team is actively conducting a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the incident and is reassessing various components of the event, including signup processes, venue layouts, and security measures. While some details cannot be disclosed for privacy reasons, the community will receive updates regarding changes that will directly affect attendees.
Furthermore, improvements in real-life (IRL) streaming and overall accessibility at future TwitchCons are under consideration, with more detailed information expected to be shared at a later date.

Impact on Streamer Participation at TwitchCon
The repercussions of the incident have already led to significant disengagement from other prominent streamers. Notable creators such as Asmongold, Valkyrae, QTCinderella, and Hasan opted out of attending TwitchCon, voicing their concerns over security protocols.
Previous TwitchCons have also faced harsh criticisms, with reports of harassment against Amouranth and sexual assault incidents involving Nmplol. The 2025 event saw further troubling occurrences, including the heart-wrenching news that Twitch staff discarded gifts intended for streamers like Ironmouse and other VTubers brought by fans.
In an alarming revelation, streamer Lululuvely reported that the PC she utilized to stream at TwitchCon had a ‘hijacker’ program installed, raising serious concerns about account security.
