Twitch finally reveals DJ program launch date and its sooner than you think

Twitch has announced the launch date for its program that enables DJs to stream on the platform without the concern of receiving a DMCA strike.

The program, which is owned by Amazon, disclosed on June 6, 2024 that it had entered into a fresh collaboration with Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Sony Music, and other major partners.

In June, the company did not disclose the specific launch date for the program. However, on July 25, Twitch announced that the DJ category would be launching on August 8, 2024.

“Attention DJs! Our brand new DJs Category will be launching on 8.08. To be a part of the launch and have the opportunity for Twitch promotion, be sure to opt into the DJ Program beginning on August 1st. This was announced in a tweet.”

Those wanting to participate in the program must submit an application through the form provided by Twitch on August 1, 2024.

If the agreement is approved, their channel will no longer be able to offer VODs, Clips, or Highlights. As a result, Twitch advises DJ streamers to open a new account dedicated solely to streaming DJ content.

As part of the Affiliate or Partner program, streamers will be responsible for contributing towards the cost of music licenses. However, Twitch has promised to cover the expenses for the first year of the program.

“In order to support current Twitch DJs in adapting to this new program, Twitch has announced a 1-year subsidy to assist in covering the difference in revenue that will be distributed to music companies and their artists. The amount of the subsidy will decrease gradually as the platform expands.”

Just recently, Twitch announced alterations to its Sexual Harassment policy and introduced a new method for streamers to delete offensive comments from their chat.
