NASA is preparing to make a remarkable leap in live streaming by launching a Twitch broadcast from the International Space Station (ISS), providing an extraordinary opportunity for audiences to connect with astronauts conducting research in outer space.

This innovative Twitch stream is set to occur at 8:45 AM PT | 11:45 AM EST on Wednesday, February 12. Notably, it will allow viewers to engage with an astronaut from the comfort of their own homes, a first for the platform.

Navigating New Frontiers: NASA Takes Twitch to New Heights

While several livestream feeds from space have emerged over the years, many existing channels primarily showcase stunning visuals of Earth from the ISS, such as NASA’s current broadcasts and SpaceTV-1, which offers up to 20 hours of live streaming. These streams feature everything from simple views of Earth to detailed tours of spacewalks and experiments.

The upcoming Twitch event, however, distinguishes itself through interactive engagement. During the stream, astronaut Don Pettit will communicate directly with viewers, answering questions and sharing insights about life on the ISS. He will be joined by fellow astronaut Matt Dominick, who recently returned from a seven-month mission and will also provide commentary from NASA’s ground facilities.

Viewers can tune in to this groundbreaking event via NASA’s official Twitch channel, which we have linked for your convenience. Brittany Brown, NASA’s Director of the Office of Communications and Digital Technology Division, emphasized that this live session represents just the beginning of NASA’s initiatives on Twitch.

In her press release, Brown stated, “This event from space is the first of many.” This comment suggests that aspirations to expand the streaming landscape may align with popular culture, paving the way for exciting collaborations and content in the future, perhaps even making dreams like Kai Cenat’s ambition of becoming the first streamer in space a reality.
