Twitch Streamers’ Criticism of Weird Drop-In Feature for Requesting Collaborations

Twitch recently announced a new “knock”button that allows creators to request collaborations. However, many streamers have expressed their dissatisfaction with the feature on social media, calling it “terrible.”

The recently introduced “Drop Ins”function on Twitch allows users to request a collaboration by “knocking”on the streams of other creators who are currently broadcasting.

In a blog post, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy announced the launch of the Drop Ins feature for Stream Together. This new feature aims to simplify the process of spontaneously joining each other’s streams.

The announcement of the new feature was also made on Twitter/X, but it has been met with criticism from numerous streamers in the replies. Many argue that arranging collaborations should be done through Discord or other methods, rather than interrupting a live stream.

Popular VTuber Shylilly expressed her disapproval of the feature, stating that it was “unwanted.”She also urged Twitch to provide an opt-out option for Drop Ins.

“They said, “Knock knock! Who’s there? Unwanted feature! But seriously, we would appreciate the ability to opt out of these.”

Another individual commented, expressing concern that without proper moderation, this feature could be easily exploited. They pointed out that some may misuse it to harass other creators or stir up drama. They urged for heavy moderation to be implemented if this feature is launched.

“Is it strange that I find this f**king weird?”a third person questioned.

Despite the negative reception from some, there are still those who appreciate the feature. One such person is SweeetTails, a well-known Twitch streamer, who expressed her enthusiasm and dismissed the criticism from others in the replies.

“I absolutely adore this idea. Being able to visit smaller streamers and connect with new people is fantastic. And being able to drop into a friend’s stream without having to join their discord voice chat is a huge plus. Some people are overlooking the true value of this feature. It’s a positive step forward,”she explained.

“It is important to take small steps before making big leaps, so it is necessary for everyone to refrain from constantly criticizing and instead acknowledge the hard work being put into developing new features. The trend of spreading negativity is incredibly frustrating. It seems like people are never satisfied. Let’s learn to appreciate things for what they are.”

Many commenters also expressed their desire for Twitch to reverse the mobile app update, which was released in early August and has caused quite a bit of controversy, adding to the list of contentious changes on the site.
