Twitch has recently undergone a significant shake-up, eliminating several user-favorite emotes, notably those associated with popular content creators like Ironmouse, Kai Cenat, and Ibai.

For newcomers to Twitch chat, the experience can feel quite overwhelming. Viewers engage in various styles of interaction, ranging from intense emote spam to expansive copy-pasta posts, or even engaging in traditional conversations.

Utilizing emotes has become a cornerstone of communication on Twitch. Each channel features its own exclusive emotes, alongside numerous global ones that anyone can employ across the platform. However, Twitch is known for conducting random purges of these emotes without any prior warning—meaning cherished favorites can disappear unexpectedly.

Emote Purge: 34 Removed in January 2026

On January 7, 2026, Twitch executed a mass removal of 34 global emotes, as reported by Stream Database. Among these was the well-loved PotFriend emote.

Other notable removals included IronmouseLuv, StreamerU, and KingWorldCup emotes, all of which were linked to popular streamers Ironmouse, Kai Cenat, and Ibai. Ironmouse’s emote was introduced during November’s VTuber week, while Kai’s emotes were affiliated with his Streamer University and Mafiathon events held earlier in the year.

Reactions to the removals have been mixed. Bandai Namco US lamented, “RIP pot friend, ” accompanied by a sad emoji. Another user remarked on the low-quality appearance of PotFriend, saying, “It looked awful when gigantified.”

Some community members expressed surprise over the removal of Ironmouse’s emote so soon after its introduction, questioning the logic behind the purge.

Speculation has arisen suggesting that the purged emotes were connected to sponsorship deals that have since concluded. This wave of removals aligns with the disappearance of emotes related to collaborations with brands like McDonald’s, EA SPORTS FC, Star Wars, and Fall Guys.
