Twitch Unveils Three New Global Emotes to Replace BibleThump, but Reaction Is Unfavorable

Twitch is set to bid farewell to its beloved BibleThump emote on September 30, coinciding with the expiration of the rights to The Binding of Isaac emote. In its place, Twitch has introduced three new emotes, but fan reception has been largely unfavorable.

The popular streaming platform Twitch hosts numerous iconic emotes, and it is rare for the Amazon-owned service to retire them.

While Twitch previously removed Gootecks’s ‘PogChamp’ emote due to allegations of it “encouraging violence,” the exit of BibleThump is due to the expiration of its rights.

“On 9/30, the rights to our beloved emote expire. While this is sad news, we know that all emotes go to heaven,” Twitch announced on September 25.

In substitution for BibleThump, Twitch has unveiled three new alternatives: BigSad, UnBearable, and LayersOfSad, all showcasing characters with tears.

“BibleThump has carried us through so much. To celebrate its legacy, Symon Redd created some new faces, or reincarnations if you will, of emotional support. Which face should we welcome?”

The streaming platform also launched a makeshift X poll to decide which of the new emotes should become the spiritual successor to BibleThump; however, voters are united in their opposition, insisting that BibleThump should remain.

“Nawwwwww,” commented IRL streamer JakeNBake, dismissively responding to the poll.

“Just renew the rights,” another fan urged.

“How about you just renew BibleThump you cheap f**ks,” another frustrated user blasted.

“None. The creator of Finding Isaac said he is open to extending BibleThump and you guys need to merely reach out,” remarked another streamer, adding, “These suck.”

Edmund McMillen, the creator of The Binding of Isaac, has expressed a willingness to negotiate with Twitch to either retain or alter the emote, but it appears the Amazon-owned platform is not interested in pursuing this option.

While Twitch may be unwilling to renew the rights, rival streaming platform Kick has indicated they would be open to acquiring the rights to BibleThump, although no formal agreement has been made. Regardless, fans are clearly displeased with the current situation.
