Ubisoft’s Future Looks Grim as Asmongold Deems Star Wars Outlaws a Sales Disaster

According to reports, Ubisoft’s stock has been negatively impacted by the underwhelming sales of Star Wars Outlaws, leading Asmongold to believe that the French publisher may be in trouble.

In August 2024, Ubisoft Massive released their open-world Star Wars game to average reviews. Its biggest drawbacks included technical issues and controversial gameplay mechanics.

Analysts suggest that the game has failed to meet Ubisoft’s initial sales expectations. These issues have all contributed to the decline in the company’s share price, which reached a 10-year low after Outlaws’ release, causing a 10 percent decrease in stocks within days of its market debut.

During a stream, Asmongold, a content creator, discussed the issue and stated that the game’s disjointed gameplay decisions were a major factor in its failures.

According to Asmongold, the game was fundamentally flawed at its very core, all the way down to its genetic makeup, making it a complete and utter failure.

As an illustration, he criticized Outlaws for allowing players to interact with livestock by petting them, but not giving them the option to kill them. He also expressed disappointment in the fact that, despite playing as a rogue character, “you can only steal from the police.”

Like many other experts and fans, the streamer foresees Assassin’s Creed Shadows as a crucial release for Ubisoft. If the highly anticipated Feudal Japan-themed installment fails to perform, it could spell trouble for the company.

“Asmongold suggested that perhaps the development team had completed their work. He also noted the significant decline in Ubisoft’s stock following the release of Star Wars Outlaws, even comparing it to the controversy surrounding NFTs.”

The streamer emphasized that investing in a Bored Ape in January 2021 would have resulted in retaining more value compared to investing in Ubisoft.

The encouraging update is that Massive has declared its dedication to enhancing the overall experience. In an interview with GamesRadar, Creative Director Julian Gerighty shared, “We’re implementing numerous improvements. We are determined to not let it go…”

Star Wars Outlaws also has planned post-launch DLC. The first story pack, Wild Card, is set to be released in the fall of 2024. Another story pack, A Pirate’s Fortune, will follow in the spring of 2025.
