In the wake of significant restructuring at Ubisoft, the future of the long-awaited Beyond Good and Evil 2 appears secure, even as six games have been canceled as part of a companywide transformation.

On January 21, 2026, Ubisoft announced a major overhaul of its organizational structure, consolidating its development efforts into five core “Creative Houses.” This reorganization has resulted in the closure of multiple studios, layoffs of an undisclosed number of employees, and the cancellation of several projects, including the anticipated Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake, which was under development since 2020.

However, amidst these cancellations, the future of Beyond Good and Evil 2 remains intact. Despite a rocky development history spanning nearly 18 years, reports indicate that the game is still advancing through its production phase, though no concrete timeline for its release has been established.

The Ongoing Journey of Beyond Good and Evil 2

The original Beyond Good & Evil, released in 2003 on platforms such as the PS2, original Xbox, and GameCube, captivated players with its engaging gameplay, featuring protagonist Jade as she navigates a richly crafted world filled with puzzles and mysteries. Following this success, Beyond Good and Evil 2 was announced on May 30, 2008, with hopes of a quick follow-up. However, the project has faced repeated delays and multiple reboots, making its path turbulent. The last substantial update was in 2017, and it was reported that as of 2022, the game was still in pre-production.

Despite its prolonged development challenges, Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming has confirmed that the project is still active, with the current iteration evolving from the work showcased in 2017. This version has reportedly been under development for a considerable nine years. Furthermore, the project has incurred a remarkable development cost exceeding half a billion dollars, eclipsing even the notorious Duke Nukem Forever, which previously held the record for the longest development cycle at 14 years.

As for when gamers may finally catch a glimpse of Beyond Good and Evil 2, that remains uncertain. However, if the latest updates are accurate, the project is progressing, and there is hope that this long-awaited sequel may eventually see the light of day.
