For those gearing up for this weekend’s unique event, The Long Walk “treadmill elimination challenge, ” the task is straightforward: keep walking or forfeit the movie experience.
This latest adaptation of a Stephen King classic, helmed by Francis Lawrence of The Hunger Games fame, presents an intriguing premise. In a dystopian version of America, a cadre of young men enters a brutal competition where they must continually walk at a minimum pace of 3 miles per hour. The contest continues until only one participant remains.
The big question looms: how far could you endure this relentless challenge? A speed of three miles per hour may not seem intimidating—given that the average walking pace hovers between 2.5 and 4 mph, most fitness enthusiasts would find it manageable. Yet, the very essence of the contest raises doubts; if it were genuinely easy, winning would be a breeze—proving this challenge is far from simple.
An Exciting Screening Experience for The Long Walk
Scheduled for Saturday, August 30, the screening at Culver Theater in Los Angeles invites influencers and cinema enthusiasts to experience the film in a highly interactive way—maintaining a pace of over 3 mph without stopping for the entirety of the movie. This amounts to 108 minutes of continuous walking!
According to the press release, those who halt their pace will be removed from the event. While there’s no tangible prize for participants who successfully watch the film, they will have the privilege of viewing it ahead of general audiences.
To accommodate this innovative approach, Lionsgate has transformed the cinema, replacing traditional seating with treadmills, effectively blending fitness with film.

Unfortunately, the participants for this immersive screening have already been selected, meaning eager fans will have to wait for the film’s digital release. Once available, viewers can enjoy the film at home, whether on their mobile devices while hitting the gym or leisurely walking on a treadmill.
The inventive nature of this screening has garnered positive feedback, including from Gen V star Patrick Schwarzenegger, who remarked on social media, “This is a kinda fun marketing idea. I can’t wait to watch this movie – looks awesome.”
In a lighter vein, critic Richard Roeper quipped, “Cool. I’m going to attend a screening where I can watch it from a reclining leather chair while nursing a Pinot Noir. However, I will walk home after. Or maybe I’ll run like the kids in Weapons.”
For those interested, tickets for The Long Walk are currently available, and the film is set to hit theaters nationwide on September 12.
