In the exciting expansion of Vampire Survivors titled Ode to Castlevania, players are introduced to a new cohort of vampire hunters, including the acclaimed Soma Cruz from Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. This guide details the steps required to unlock Soma Cruz in Vampire Survivors: Ode to Castlevania.
Unlocking Soma Cruz in Ode to Castlevania
To acquire Soma Cruz, players must defeat the formidable Gergoth while using Julius Belmont. The key to unlocking this character involves locating the second coffin on the Ode to Castlevania stage—an endeavor that requires speed more than skill, as there are no other prerequisites.
The Gergoth boss can be encountered on the eastern side of the stage, specifically within the castle’s winding staircase. Players must first defeat several bosses to access the areas preceding the staircase. Fortunately, a warp point located just south of the staircase facilitates easier navigation.
If you have already unlocked this area, simply warp and proceed north. To summon Gergoth, step onto the red circle symbol marked on the ground. For veterans of the series, Gergoth is a recognizable foe, appearing as a massive head with two legs—a recurring antagonist throughout various Castlevania titles.
Once you defeat Gergoth, you’ll receive a treasure chest containing a random weapon or evolution. Notably, there will be no on-screen indication of Soma Cruz’s unlock status until you complete the current run. After successfully defeating Gergoth, you can safely exit the run and return to the main menu.
To fully unlock Soma Cruz, you must purchase him from the character selection screen using gold. The gold cost is influenced by how many characters from the Ode to Castlevania expansion you have already unlocked. Soma Cruz starts with the Hand Grenade weapon and gains an impressive +1% Might for every level earned throughout the run.
