Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has made its debut on PC nearly a year after its initial release on PlayStation 5. Gamers are treated to a visually stunning port, complete with a variety of graphics settings to customize their experience. However, it’s worth noting that some key features are notably missing from the graphics menu. For PC players utilizing high-performance hardware and monitors that support high refresh rates, the inability to exceed 120 FPS is disappointing, especially considering how enhanced motion clarity can significantly improve gameplay. Fortunately, the modding community has responded swiftly; a modder named Lyall has developed a fix that successfully removes this framerate cap from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

How to Unlock the Framerate in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Lyall’s initial patch tackled the absence of ultrawide support in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Following numerous community requests, they have also incorporated the ability to customize the FPS in their recent updates. Here’s a step-by-step guide to unlock the framerate:

  • Ensure that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is not currently running.
  • Visit the GitHub repository and select the latest version (0.0.4 as of this writing).
  • Download the patch file by clicking on FF7RebirthFix_v0.0.4.zip located in the assets section.
  • Extract the contents of the zip file into the installation directory of the game. The default path for Steam users is:

steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH

  • Next, navigate to the folder and open the FF7RebirthFix.ini file using a text editor such as Notepad or Notepad++.
  • In this file, locate the section titled General > [Framerate] and set the FPS value to your desired framerate. It is advisable to choose a value that your hardware can consistently achieve for a smoother gaming experience.

  • Save the changes in the file using Ctrl + S and close the text editor.

Upon launching the game, you will now benefit from the new framerate cap that exceeds the default limit of 120 FPS.

Adjusting the Field of View (FOV) in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

The same patch developed by Lyall also allows players to modify the field of view (FOV) settings:

  • Within the FF7RebirthFix.ini file, find the [Gameplay FOV] section and adjust the value of Multiplier. The default setting is 1; for a 20% increase, change it to 1.2.

  • Once again, remember to save your changes with Ctrl + S and exit the editor.

Disabling the Vignette Effect in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

In addition to the ultrawide fixes and framerate adjustments, players now have the option to disable the vignette effect in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, enhancing overall visibility and aesthetic presentation:

  • Similar to the previous settings, locate the [Vignette] section in the FF7RebirthFix.ini file and set the Disabled value to true.

A special thanks to Lyall for their exceptional work in developing and testing this patch. Their contributions are invaluable, particularly with the arrival of other notable titles such as Thank Goodness You’re Here, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, and Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut.
