Thanks to Lauren LeFranc, the showrunner for The Penguin, there are exciting developments on the horizon regarding new spinoffs stemming from the 2022 film The Batman. Despite this, it appears that many fans are yearning for something different.
Three years have passed since Robert Pattinson brought Bruce Wayne to life, navigating a complex web of corruption following the shocking murder of Gotham’s mayor. The film achieved remarkable success, raking in over $700 million at the box office during its initial run. However, fans have yet to see Pattinson don the iconic cape again.
In the absence of any new Batman films, The Penguin series has made strides on HBO, and conversations surrounding a potential Season 2 are revitalizing hope among viewers. As LeFranc has confirmed, discussions about additional spinoffs are also progressing into the “early stages”of development, as outlined in an interview.
Amid Spinoff Buzz, Fans Demand The Batman 2
While anticipation surrounding The Penguin Season 2 and other spinoffs grows, fans are increasingly vocal about their desire for the much-anticipated The Batman 2. With its release lingering in limbo, many are pushing for the sequel to take precedence over new side projects.

If it has slipped your mind, The Batman 2 is currently scheduled for release on October 1, 2027, as part of the rejuvenated DC Universe under the direction of James Gunn and Peter Safran. Initially set for a 2025 release, the sequel faced significant delays due to the recent writers’ and actors’ strikes, pushing it back for two years. Nevertheless, director Matt Reeves is reportedly collaborating with Mattson Tomlin on the script while also developing the broader “Batverse, ”which will encompass these anticipated spinoffs.
Fan reactions on social media reflect this growing frustration. One user expressed, “Can we get The Batman 2 first, fam?” while another chimed in with, “Just give me The Batman Part 2.” A third user noted, “Everything else in the works apart from The Batman Part 2, ” and a fourth lamented, “Still waiting for my most anticipated spinoff: The Batman 2.”

As speculation regarding The Batman 2 continues to mount, there are some promising updates amidst the uncertainty. Reports suggest that Reeves was set to submit a draft of the sequel by Memorial Day, and Gunn has mentioned receiving “promising updates” about the project, including progress on the script. Filming is tentatively slated to begin in early 2026.
While focused on spinoffs, potential storylines involving characters like the Joker, Riddler, and Catwoman seem likely to emerge as standalone series. Regarding The Penguin Season 2, LeFranc indicated that “beyond Colin (Farrell), it depends on whether there’s a story that we can make richer than what we’ve already done.”
