Just when you believed it was safe to browse the internet once more, a hacker targeting Netflix has announced that episodes of Stranger Things Season 5 will soon be released without authorization.
The announcement comes following a significant data breach at Netflix, during which parts of their upcoming anime lineup were illegally leaked online. This included titles such as Terminator Zero, Dandadan, and Mappa’s remake of Ranma 1/2.
The clips, which were not released as intended and have poor quality, were accompanied by leaks of other highly-anticipated shows such as Arcane Season 2 and Heartstopper Season 3.
Towards the end of last week, a rumor began circulating that the hacker’s next victim would be Stranger Things Season 5.
Despite being the concluding chapter of Netflix’s most popular title and with a release date set for 2025, these assertions appeared highly improbable.
Netflix just had a big leak, I heard from people that the first 3 unfinished episodes might release later. Take it with a grain of salt we’ll see it ourself.#StrangerThings5 #StrangerThings #Netflix pic.twitter.com/0z9oSnD6ET

Despite this, Jace Johnson, the anonymous leaker, has recently claimed that the episodes of Season 5 will be available on Wednesday, August 15.
In a post, they clarified that although Stranger Things was not affected by the website hack, they had a conversation with a hacker who shared footage from Season 5 Episode 1 with them.
They wrote, “He mentioned sending me the leaked episodes on Wednesday. Should I still share them, even though it’s likely I’ll be sued by Netflix?”
Similarly to last week’s rumor, the concept has not been received positively by the Stranger Things fanbase.
“One person wrote, “Piss off disrespectfully,”in response to the show. Another replied with, “No. Show some respect for the entire cast and crew involved in this production. SMH.”
A third person cautioned, “Do not do it. Leaks can be harmful,”while a fourth person chimed in, “You are only doing this for attention. Please stop now.”
Five individuals expressed their concern on social media, specifically one person who begged others not to spoil the highly anticipated Season 5. They emphasized the fact that even if someone chooses not to watch, they can still be exposed to spoilers and ruin the experience for themselves and thousands of other fans who have been eagerly awaiting its release. The plea was for people to refrain from spoiling the show.
The hacker is claiming to have released unfinished content from Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 online, making it the second threat they’ve made this week after targeting Stranger Things.
Last week, Netflix addressed the breach and informed The Wrap that they are taking immediate and aggressive measures to have it removed.
“The complete version of the show, as intended and with the ultimate viewing experience, will be available on Netflix in November 2024.”
If you’re tired of having your favorite show spoiled, you could consider installing an extension that prevents spoilers until the release date.
