Upgrading Your Needle in Silksong: Step-by-Step Guide

Hollow Knight: Silksong has finally made its debut, and for those players out there finding it takes an exasperating seventeen hits to take down even the smallest flies, rest assured, you’re not alone in this challenge.

Initially, Hornet may feel somewhat underpowered with a frustratingly low damage output. However, there’s a rewarding solution to this issue. As you progress through the storyline, reaching certain key milestones will allow you to unlock a complimentary upgrade for Hornet’s signature weapon, the Needle.

Upgrading Hornet’s Needle in Silksong

Once you defeat the Widow boss, you will be introduced to an NPC known as Pinmaster Plinney, who will grant a free damage enhancement to your Needle.

Step 1: Progress to Shellwood and Unlock Wall Jumping

Continue along the main path leading through Shellwood until Hornet acquires the wall jump ability, known as Cling Grip. This skill is critical, akin to the Dash, as it allows access to Bellhart, a region that was previously locked.

Step 2: Return to Bellhart and Conquer the Widow Boss

With your new wall jump ability in hand, make your way back to Bellhart, specifically from the upper right direction within Shellwood.

Be wary of challenging vertical sections and various spike traps; utilize your wall-clinging ability while descending and time your slides strategically to evade the fluffy enemies that populate the area.

Ultimately, you’ll confront and battle the Widow boss located deep within Bellhart. Triumphing over her will liberate the region of Bellhart.

Step 3: Locate Pinmaster Plinney for Your Upgrade

Following your contest with the Widow, be sure to rest at the bench located near the boss’s room. Take the path to the right and ride the lift downwards; you’ll find yourself back in Bellhart, now revitalized and bustling once more.

The NPC you seek, Pinmaster Plinney, is situated in the bellhouse, identifiable by a needle sign above the entrance.

When you engage Plinney, a brief cutscene will occur, culminating in the upgrade of your Needle, now known as the Sharpened Needle. This upgrade bestows a significant boost in damage, enhancing your offensive capabilities.

Now equipped with this enhancement, it’s time to show those bugs who’s in charge! Assuming Steam remains stable, you can enjoy the full experience of the game along with hundreds of thousands of fellow players.
