Using AI to Enhance iOS 18 Notification Reading

Using AI to Enhance iOS 18 Notification Reading

The upcoming iOS 18 is predicted to bring significant improvements, including a wide range of AI capabilities. According to a report from Bloomberg, the operating system will utilize AI to condense and summarize your notifications.

According to a recent Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, Apple is set to introduce new AI features with the iOS 18, including an auto-summarization feature for notifications. This feature will also provide concise summaries of news articles and transcribe voice memos.

According to Gurman, Apple plans to enhance Siri’s voice capabilities to make it feel more conversational and introduce new features that assist users in their daily routines. This approach is known as “proactive intelligence.”

It seems likely that the upcoming Siri will bear resemblance to OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4o, which has the ability to process various forms of input such as text, audio, image, and video and produce quick, natural responses. There is speculation that Apple may collaborate with OpenAI to incorporate these capabilities into Siri. According to Gurman’s report earlier this month, Apple has finalized an agreement with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into the iPhone.

Gurman explained that with Siri’s “proactive intelligence,”users can expect new features such as automatic summarization of notifications.

“The [proactive intelligence] feature encompasses various services, such as auto-summarizing notifications from your iPhone, providing brief overviews of news articles, transcribing voice memos, and enhancing existing features that automatically populate your calendar and suggest apps. Additionally, there will be improvements to photos through AI-based editing. However, for individuals familiar with AI in Adobe Inc.’s apps over the past few months, these enhancements may not be impressive,”he stated.

Apple may be able to close the gap with its competitors thanks to these new features. According to Gurman, Apple executives reportedly acknowledge internally that they are behind and need to catch up.

It is expected that Apple will announce iOS 18 at their annual WWDC event, scheduled to occur from June 10 to 14. However, it is possible that the public release will not occur until September.
