Twitch sensation Valkyrae recently took to social media to voice her frustration regarding an episode of Pop Culture Jeopardy that presented incorrect information about her career and name. This incident occurred during the show’s recent episode aired on January 29, 2025.
Since returning to Twitch in January 2025, Valkyrae has quickly reclaimed her position as the platform’s leading female streamer, achieving record-breaking viewership within her first week back. The streamer, whose real name is Rachel Hofstetter, has garnered numerous accolades, including the coveted Best Live Streamer award at the 2021 Streamy Awards, alongside honors like Content Creator of the Year from the Game Awards and Gaming Creator of the Year from Adweek.
Controversy on Pop Culture Jeopardy
Valkyrae’s acknowledgement by Pop Culture Jeopardy came as a product of her 2021 Streamy Award victory, which served as a basis for a trivia question during Episode 25 of the show. Hosted by Colin Jost from SNL, the episode featured a category focused on Streamy Award winners, prompting contestants with the question: “In 2021, she won the live-streamer award. She once joked her mom named her for ‘The Nordic Mythology Angels.’”

While the correct answer was indeed “Valkyrae, ” the accompanying information spread misinformation about the origins of her name. Valkyrae was quick to respond, expressing disbelief over the inaccuracy in her name’s origins.“Is this real???? The way it’s not even accurate, ” she tweeted, clearly dissatisfied with the error.

Fans of the streamer echoed her sentiments, dubbing the mistake as “absurd” and calling out the show for fabricating details about her background. One follower humorously referenced her name, quipping about “The mythical RAYCHEL, ” implying that the show’s description created an exaggerated narrative.
Although Valkyrae is primarily known by her streaming alias, she initially adopted the handle “Legend of Rae” inspired by the beloved game Legend of Zelda. Eventually, she transitioned to “Valkyrae, ” influenced by the figure of the Valkyrie — female warriors who choose the fate of slain warriors in Norse mythology.
Despite the airing of the episode, Valkyrae has taken it upon herself to clarify the misconceptions surrounding her name, demonstrating her commitment to accuracy and transparency, hallmarks of her authenticity as a content creator.
