Vancouver Surge Signs Nastie and Hicksy for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 CDL Season

Vancouver Surge is set to finalize their roster for the Black Ops 6 Call of Duty League season by signing European Call of Duty professionals Byron ‘Nastie’ Plumridge and Charlie ‘Hicksy’ Hicks. This anticipated move comes after a challenging Modern Warfare III season, during which the team, initially representing Seattle, underwent a relocation and rebranding to Vancouver.

Throughout the previous season, Surge consistently ranked among the top six teams but couldn’t quite meet the high expectations placed upon them, ultimately finishing the Champs in 7-8th place despite positive improvements observed during scrimmages.

A notable performance at the Esports World Cup saw Surge achieve a respectable 3-4th placement, although they were eliminated by LA Thieves in the semi-finals.

In light of these changes, the organization bid farewell to players Cuyler ‘Huke’ Garland and Paul ‘Breszy’ Breszynski, both of whom are currently without a team.

Remaining on the team are Abuzah and 04, both of whom enjoyed successful rookie seasons.

As part of their roster adjustments, Surge is working diligently to secure the contracts of Nastie and Hicksy. Nastie previously excelled with LA Thieves, achieving a fourth-place finish at Champs and a second-place finish at the Esports World Cup. However, he was sidelined due to roster changes favoring Thomas ‘Scrappy’ Ernst as part of a rumored powerhouse team.

On the other hand, Hicksy spent the season in Challengers after a standout rookie year in 2023 with Toronto Ultra, where he won a Major and finished second at Champs. For the 2024 season, he faced replacement by Dylan ‘Envoy’ Hannon, who is also rumored to be joining LA Thieves along with Scrappy. Despite interest from Surge and Vegas Legion earlier in the season, Hicksy remained unsigned.

There are also rumors linking Kyle ‘Kremp’ Haworth to the second SMG position on Surge, yet it seems likely they will proceed with the European recruits. Kremp may still have a chance to stay with LA Thieves if Gentle Mates pursues a buyout for both Scrap and HyDra.

The two European stars will join Jovan ‘04′ Rodriguez and Jordan ‘Abuzah’ François to complete the roster, all under the leadership of head coach Ray ‘Rambo’ Lussier. As of now, Nastie has officially signed, while negotiations for Hicksy are nearing completion.
