At Suwon KT Wiz Park on June 5th, the 8th game of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League was held between KT Wiz and Hanwha Eagles. Hanwha emerged victorious with a 12-2 score, maintaining their winning streak.
Despite the game being over, a controversy arose involving KT players. The incident took place in the bottom of the 8th inning, when Hanwha’s Park Sang-won’s celebratory actions after a strikeout, even though his team had a significant lead, angered the KT team. Jang Sung-woo and his teammates quickly voiced their disapproval. In an effort to resolve the issue, Hanwha’s pitching coach Park Seung-min and Ryu Hyun-jin apologized to the KT bench.
Despite the game coming to an end, Hwang Jae-gyun emerged onto the field and motioned for Park Sang-won to join him, visibly upset and leading to a heated confrontation. The dispute was eventually resolved with the help of both teams’ coaches and experienced players. Surprisingly, the backlash from baseball fans was directed towards Jiyeon.
Jiyeon’s SNS and YouTube have been inundated with negative comments from netizens. These criticisms include statements such as “Your husband needs to control his anger,” “Professionals should behave professionally,” and “Make sure to address your husband’s behavior.”
Despite the anger and negativity expressed towards Jiyeon, there were also voices advocating for restraint. Comments such as “Why direct anger towards someone who is not involved?”and “It is chaotic on the player’s wife’s social media”showed support for Jiyeon. Additionally, there were calls for those who left hateful comments to face legal consequences.
In December 2022, Jiyeon tied the knot with baseball player Hwang Jae-gyun.
